I like Vesrian's idea about members having a "permanent page."

That would make me want to become a mamber that much more.

That's not a bad idea either... but it doesn't help the problem.
How are you going to GET to their trades page? How will you know they've updated it? Do YOU want to troll through the trade pages of all whatever-thousand members there are?
We can't post "Updated my trade list" in the trade forums, unless we wanted that to be our only post for the week.

I think my only problem is that my nose is wrinkling at the amount of time we have to wait in between posts.

How close will the mods be watching the once a week rule?
I'm trying hard (and it really is hard) to follow that rule, but it seems that there are others who couldn't give a rip about it.

Or maybe they don't know about it. I was unaware of the rule until seeing this thread (and I do pay attention to the rules postings, but i missed this particular update until after the discussion pointed it out)

As to enforcement, i'm not going to presume i know the mods' intent.
Actually, yeah i am. It seems like the rule is around to curtail the more frequent offenses and provide justification for deleting stuff by someone posting the same thing everyday. Unless (until?) this becomes a computer enforced policy, i suspect enforcement will be limited to the more obvious/obnoxious violations.

If you're frustrated about others getting away with breaking the rule, perhaps you could convince the 'powers that be' to MODify you, so that you can help enforce it. : )


EDIT: because i'm bored waiting for my ride home, i whipped up a quick perl script to see how many people were actually breaking the rules. (i'm a dork like that)
I had it scan the first 3 pages of the 40K forum (a little less than a week's worth of posts) here's the output:
total posts: 150
unique posters: 112
ave posts/ user: 1.34
posters with 2 posts: 17
posters with 3 posts: 7
posters with 4 posts: 1
posters with 5 posts: 1

That's 26 naughty little bartertowners...

While I'd be willing to help out as a Mod if asked, it's certainly not something I'm going to actively gun for. I like what little free time I get.

Now, here's my question(S?). YOu've got me curious.
Are those numbers self containing or what?
I mean, the person with 5 posts... is that the same person with 4 posts, one of the ones with 3, AND one with 2 posts? Or, are those numbers independent of each other (i.e. a person can only be in one category)?

I've been handing out friendly warnings here and there for more blatant offenses, but I'm certainly not being a Nazi about it.

As you said, most people don't know about the rule (let' be honest, who really reads the rules anymore?), but ignorance is no excuse for breaking the rules.

Really, it's no big deal, but the pants hath spake and thus it is so.

And also, please recall that if someone posts a reply to your ad it resets the "kill clock." It doesn't seem fair to me that someone posted an ad a week ago and on day 6 or whatever someone else sees it and replies.

In essence, we're playing this one loose and not enforcing it THAT closely. On the other hand, as a certain user found out, if you screw with us or take blatant advantage then you get suspended.
