Profile "Location"
Is there any way we could add a rule that people need to correctly fill in their location in the profile area??? I know it's currently not mandatory but it sure would help as far as trading goes in my opinion. No offense to non US people but I'd just as soon avoid international trades and since many people don't fill in their location you often have no clue where they live until you're already in the negotiation process. Sure it would be easy enough to ask every single person where they live but it seems like it might be easier to just require the already existing field in the profile section to be used. That way it would just list their location under thier name. A simple city and state would suffice. Is it just me???

state at least
I can understand not wanting to share, but at least a state and nation would help most people. You don't have to put your address for goodness sake.
I would like to know ahead of time at least country because I have decided that trading overseas is a hassle. I had an eBay thing go very wrong and I nearly lost my pefect record because of some joker in England. Not grouping all people in England together here, just the issues of USPS to Royal Post is a little daunting, and don't even go there for Canada with their customs.
Anyway, I know how rules are, so.... I vote for at least state and/or nation. In this democracy known as Bartertown.

Ek, I can tell you're an American.and don't even go there for Canada with their customs.
Truth is, most of the delays in customs are on the US side. Delays are longer on our side than theirs, ESPECIALLY with packages coming IN to the US.

but canadian customs vary when they charge fees. i've traded $50 and the receiver had to pay $15. i've traded $150 and the receiver had to pay nothing. both times i listed contents as used toys and the dollar value. no i don't lie on customs forms because i work for usps. i'm not about to lose my job because you don't want to pay your fees. i just received a large sale from UK, about $400, and i had to pay no fees. it took 5 days to get from UK to me. i'm still waiting on an item from AU and the package i sent isn't there yet either.. so much for 5 day shipping.MagickalMemories wrote:Ek, I can tell you're an American.and don't even go there for Canada with their customs.

I know we have our issues as well, but since 9/11 it has been tougher to send overseas. When I mentioned Canada I was specifically refering to the customs forms and the predicimate that most of us are put in when filling those out. Is it a gift? Is it a sale? I, too, have sent packages labeled correctly and had some charged a duty and others not. The amount seemed irrelavant to whether they were charged or not.
The deal with England was specifically NOT a mail carrier issue, it was the individual who insisted I send it to his work, where the package arrived much faster than he expected and it sat in a corner for over 2 months before he figured it out. He threatened me up and down and after I submitted a claim form we figured out what had happened. His response - "thanks, mate." No sorry, no hey my bad, nothing. A two word e-mail.

Re: i know
Not to name names, but I know "someone" and apparently it depends on who processes the package. Some customs officers are shall we say, more lenient than others when it comes to "gifts" that come from the states. Plus, the value applied can affect it too, although seems askew when you look at the aforementioned example... Realistically you should just have to pay GST {goods and services tax (6%)} plus your applicable PST {provincial sales tax} on the declared value if it is a sale and nothing if it is a gift within an amount that eludes my brain at the moment...ekister wrote: I know we have our issues as well, but since 9/11 it has been tougher to send overseas.
