I have one one of those ultrasonic cleaners. They work well but you still have to scrub the models. Just makes it faster.

I'm seriously considering it because... these things isn't purty!kturock wrote:MM. The paints sloughs off, mostly. There's always some scrubbing needed no matter what you use.
With PP, the longer you let it soak, the less scrubbing needed.

Lower rating? You ship first.

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

When it comes to strippers you can say "cheap, fast or safe: pick one".
Almost anything that quickly and efficiently strips paint from metal is going to be slightly to very toxic. People talk about using brake fluid without realizing that many brake fluids are rated as carcinogens. People talk about using pine oil based cleaners without realizing that undiluted they can cause skin and lung damage.
The safest ways to take off paint from metal are cleaners like Simple Green but those take some time to work.
So you need to figure out if you want something done quickly or safely.
Don't go cheap no matter what option you choose. Cheap cleaners, fluids etc are cheap because they have less of the ingredients that ultimately strip the paint.
I used to race/work on cars so I know that. Glove and mask are always use, but I rarely use that stuff. However Nail polish removed I feel fine with , but I'm also not huffing the stuff. The models sit in a seal container with it, and when I remove them they get run under water and scrubbed with soap. Container gets sealed again.
Positive feedback I have left for but have not received any in return: Stephen, oldgamer56

Simple green, has petroleum distilletes. It's not plain 'soap & water'.
It can cause skin problems. I use it at work and used for most of my paint removal needs; until I found PP.
Both will affect your skin.
Also, SG will melt plastic and resin. So far, PP hasn't. I've left plactics in for a month. I only left the resin in for 3 weeks. It was only 2 sprues of finecast glued together and thats when the bond was weak enough to seperate.

PP looks promising, the only problem is, where do I get it in Canada LOL!
When shipping to Canada always put value at $20 or less and label as Toy Soldiers or something related to toys.

Try Rona. If they don't have PP they will have the undiluted GS that you can try.Masakik wrote:PP looks promising, the only problem is, where do I get it in Canada LOL!

Re: Best Way Removing Paint from Metal Miniatures
Stick with the products that say they are degreasers. I am not sure but I believe that is the component that interacts with the paint. Avoid the driveway cleaners etc as they probably won't have what you need.
Get a small bottle of the basic cleaner/degeaser to test and see if you like the results.

Re: Best Way Removing Paint from Metal Miniatures
a seach for purple power online reveals:
these car parts stores:
http://www.clean-rite.com/storelocator.html
who makes it on it's MSDS sheet:
http://www.clean-rite.com/purplepower_i ... easer.html
company contact info. They're in South Carolina.
http://www.clean-rite.com/contactus.html
Here's the large size I get from walmart, shown for sale at Advanced Auto Parts:
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/purp ... /7041632-p
The 1 gallon bottle is on ebay, for over tripple the walmart ptice. It's $10-12 in walmart for 3 gallons. Ebay is 1 gallon for $20-25.
I did a quick search using Bing. Google would probably yeild similiar results.
A search in using Canada as a location, might yield results in your area.
YMMV.
