Changes in Express and Priority Mail to meet marketplace demand
Posted 6/17/13 at 3:23 p.m.
Significant changes are coming July 28 to the Postal Service’s expedited product lineup.
“With the online shopping marketplace expected to reach $327 billion by 2016, we want to make sure our premier products — Express Mail and Priority Mail — are positioned for growth,” says Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Nagisa Manabe.
Express Mail will get a new name, and insurance will be included on domestic Priority Mail shipments, pending Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) approval. Also, expedited shipping labels, retail receipts and Track & Confirm at usps.com will indicate day-specific delivery information, and redesigned packaging will debut.
The strategy behind these changes is to meet customer requirements, stay competitive and build the package business. “We’re building on our powerhouse Priority Mail brand,” says Manabe. “In the weeks ahead, employees will be hearing a lot about our package simplification initiative.”
Here are highlights of the July 28 changes:
Express Mail will have a new name — “Priority Mail Express.” All characteristics of the current domestic Express Mail service will remain the same after the name change.
Express Mail International will be renamed “Priority Mail Express International,” and Express Mail Corporate Accounts will be called “USPS Corporate Accounts.”
Subject to PRC approval, insurance will be included — at no additional charge — with most Priority Mail pieces. Retail and commercial customers will receive $50 and $100 coverage respectively.
Expedited shipping labels, retail receipts and Track & Confirm at usps.com will include day-specific delivery information — 1-Day, 2-Day, 3-Day, Military or DPO.
Expedited packaging supplies will get a new look. Distribution to field offices begins July 18.
“We’re making some changes in our products, but our goal remains the same,” said Manabe. “We want to be America’s shipper of choice, and our package growth shows we’re taking the right steps to get there." "

Re: USPS Priority Mail changing again.
Is the price of the fixed rate boxes going up again as a result of this? How about basic Priority Mail... any cost increase?
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.
If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.
I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.
Folks I am awaiting a ref from.. Zack

Re: USPS Priority Mail changing again.
I posted exactly what we were told, what is on the website. I haven't heard of any rate increase requests...but that doesn't mean anything, just that I haven't heard it.
It usualy takes several monthes for a rate increase to be approved by the PRC, Postal Rate Commission.

Re: USPS Priority Mail changing again.
Any word on how we become a commercial customer? I ship a lot of crap.
edit: Dug around and requested a business shipping kit. We'll see how that works out for me. Also signed up on the business site. Now to figure out how it all works.
