Tampon Time: A rant about school shoot-outs and bullys
Greatings everyone!
Welcome to my rant post which I like to call: Tampon Time. This series is basiclly me ranting on the subjects of the type of world we live in and sometimes compare it to what it used to be in the 20th century. I will say ahead of time, aside from the title, there won't be any inappropriate language on my rants. There may be some immature reference (Example: These kids acted like. a bunch of Call-Of-Duty-Trash-Talking-MLG-Terrorists), but other than that, it's your average rant post. So enough with the introduction, todays topic will be: School Shoot-Outs, and Bullying.
I'm sure you all have herd of the infamous massacre where 25 children and teachers were killed by one teenage boy with firearms. This really shocked me when I herd about it, and I thought "What sick man would do such a thing?", like seriously, why do it? This wasn't the first time tho, I recall back in the 1990s where the hit PC FPS game, Doom- Hit on the gaming shelves. What happen was a few college students got their hands on it and buff themselves with Gamo-Lab's equevilant caffine drinks (Say, Mountain Dew) and had a blast playing it. Unfortunatly, they played too much of the game, and they decided to make the college as their own Doom level with firearms. Yep, that says it all. Like the old saying goes: "History Repeats itself".
But this isn't because the teen played too much video games, it was rather (My guess, keep that in mind) because he could of been a victim in bullying, which I'll cover later. If you actually see it from the boys perspective, he could of felt like an outsider of the crowd, or he must of have bullies talking trash behind his back of which he's aware about, or it may be the teen's parents in some way didn't love him. There's many reasons on how the human mind can turn into a Michial (From the film Halloween) serial killer like mad man, which I show synthaphy to those innocent men and women. But it doesn't take away the fact one man toke 25 lifes from people whowent involved in his affairs. The fact is killing people will only make it worse on yourself rather doing any good, especial when doing it to childrens. Hell, I would say "Forget that! I don't need that thing in my life!" (Scarface reference).
The point is, taking out your depression, anger, lonlyness, whatever- Against schools and kids. It's very wrong on so many levels, it's not even funny to joke about it. It's a good thing schools are now doing drills on lockdowns (Including mine) when it happens again, and Law Enforcers of in many counties are doing something about gun control, but they are forgeting about enforcing one thing, and is the subject you all been waiting for: Bullying.
I'm not gonna lie, I've been bullied when I was very young, it's not a good feeling at all to be picked on. Back to the subject on the teen boy, I thought maybe this boy was bullied to the end of oblivion that he lost all sanity and control of himself. Lets be honest, It's an on going problem in most countries, both in the real world and on the internet. From my perspective, bullying haves been "suppressed" a little during the years, but progress is slow as a snail. Rather than the Law enforcement just focusing on gun control (Which will be another topic in my futre rants), why aren't they doing anything about bullys? IMO this is a bigger problem then firearms control. I know for a fact that this is what makes kids and teens deppresed, angry, insercure, ect. about the world.
I do remember my Dad was once a bully when he was a teen, he even picked on his younger brother because he was jealous that his parents gave my uncle more attention than my Father, but despite of doing this, he still fought of bullies who picked on my uncle because he still loved him, and he had to be the big brother in those situations. The reason he bullied was simple: He didn't recieved enough attention from his parents, due to both being too busy with their jobs and showing love to his brother 9/10 times. This is how bullying was born.
The fact that many of them must push one person just to recieve attention is not only wrong, but can also effects the victims in their life. Instead of just preventing bullying by arresting them to Child Detention or the House of Unwanted kids, being both defiant to their parrents and everybody around them, we should have doctors talk to the Bullies with their parents and help them and figure out how to resolve their problems. We could also have parents volenteer (Like my Dad, for example) to go to schools and talk to kids about bullying, what they have done, and why it should stop. This can help those to understand they aren't alone and have a better friendship with their victims, appoligising to them, maybe buy them some ice cream, and call it a day.
That concludes my rant and brings to the end of Tampon Time. I hope that you enjoyed reading it and I hope you foubd it usefull. If the Admins aprove my series, then join me next time, when I'll be covering Marriage in the 21st century and Relationships about Boyfriends and Girlfriends. Until then, this is Garlicson2, signing out.

Re: Tampon Time: A rant about school shoot-outs and bullys
I think you may be looking for a connection that just is not there (by the facts as they have been reported.) Yes, bullying happens and it's bad.
This shooter was home schooled after a very short stint in a public school (he, "could not handle the classes," was the reason given by relatives/friends of the Mom), and by admission of everyone who was related to him or knows him was a recluse who wanted to stay at home and bang away on his computer instead of trying to advance socially or academically (which his mother was pushing him to do.)
He resisted his Mom's efforts to get him out of the house for advanced schooling, or looking for a job. If he had all his mental faculties, he would have been known by the label, "slacker," but he did not have all his faculties, so that term, while being adequately descriptive, is not really a fair one.
Some people are broken. It doe not mean all broken people snap, but with the wrong combination or lack of combination of support, care, medication, love and patience, bad things can happen to them and/or others.

None of these things are VITAL, this is a HOBBY. A hobby we enjoy, but still, a HOBBY.
Lower rating ships or pays 1st, myself included. Used to be more flexible; but was burned in recent months by a few newbies. If 200+ feedback w/no negs and 10+ years member is not enough to be trusted, well, like I said - none of this is VITAL.

Re: Tampon Time: A rant about school shoot-outs and bullys
Let me tell you the short and easy answer that most people just don't want to hear, or can't wrap their heads around: There are people in this world that are just truly evil. There it is, pure and simple. Note I did not say the over-used term "sick". There are sick people and there are evil people. Sickness implies there is a cure. There is no cure for evil. Evil is what evil does. There is no cure, rationalization, reasoning, or method to it's madness. It just is.............
Those people exist in this world and rational, feeling, generally "good" people cannot understand that.
However, if you believe that there are inherently good people in this world, then by default there also must exist inherently evil people as well.
Take it from a police officer with nearly 15 years of law enforcement experience. There truly are some instances to which there is no other "logical" or explainable reasoning..........

Re: Tampon Time: A rant about school shoot-outs and bullys
I will have to agree with both Mardaddy601 and Npd_bigdaddy. Sometimes people are mentally unstable or just plain evil and although not all of them act out, there is the possibility that something will snap and they will in turn carry out something that isn't exactly good (like killing). Psychologists have come up with many "Theories" on the human mind and what leads to psychotic breaks, trying to learn the mind of serial killers, or even just how things in our life can effect us for either the good or the bad; I doubt they have an answer that they all can agree upon though.
I understand there are a lot of people who would blame it on violence in video games or other forms of media but that is just trying to put the blame on a scapegoat. Violence in video games doesn't make you a killer, look at the people in third world countries having their villages burned or blown up due to war... if anything would drive someone into killing THAT should yet it does not (usually, I cannot exactly claim that not all victims would be affected in that way). Being in a violent relationship/household does not mean you are going to grow up and be violent yourself/go out and kill people. Some people just act out violently and to blame it on something like video games, or the internet, or whatever else people are blaming it on is just a way to cover up the fact that they were mentally unstable, most families don't WANT to believe their children or loved ones could do such a terrible thing so they go into denial rather than try to understand why exactly they did it. I am an avid gamer, I enjoy the average hack and slash, I play some FPS but mostly RPG, so I am always killing stuff and living in a "futuristic or fantasy realm", this however does not mean that when I get angry because of things that may or may not happen in my life do I take it on myself to go out and kill people.
That being said, to answer your bullying rant; as I agree bullying needs to have more attention, you must realize that almost all cases of bullying does not get reported. It's like any other abusive life crisis whether it's mentally, physically or sexually (spousal abuse, child abuse, etc) The reason bullying hasn't had such a "Hammer of Justice" placed onto the matter is because it's simply not reported until it's too late.
Also, as I do enjoy the act of getting things off your chest and sharing your opinions/views with other people, I don't think this is exactly the place for this specific type of topic. Everyone knows bullying is out there, that it's a crime and that it needs to stop. Everyone knows about the massive killings and just down right sick things people do (I know my wife was horror struck about the US school shooting as we have young kids around the same age that were killed) but purposely bringing it into a forum such as this to fuel responses (whether good or bad) is not needed, and as I only speak for myself, I believe it is not wanted.
My thoughts on the matter anyways....

Re: Tampon Time: A rant about school shoot-outs and bullys
I've already approved the topic. As long as people stay respectful and pg-13, there's no reason we can't talk about taboo subjects and things nobody wants to face.
I do have one comment, though...
Bullying is a crime? It needs to stop?
Hogwash.
Bullying has always been around and always will. As much as it is a tragedy that some people react to it in a... permanent... manner, kids need to be taught to be tougher. They need to be taught to deal with it in a healthy manner. We, as parents, are failing our kids if we don't teach them to deal with these things. Life is not all sunshine and daisies. Not everyone gets a participation trophy for life.
I saw a commercial on Nickelodeon (or Disney) recently, while my kids were watching TV. It was about bullying. In the commercial, some girls did not let another girl sit with them at lunch. The commercial called that bullying and said it was wrong; that the girls should have let the other one sit with them.
Bullsh**. Maybe they just don't like that girl? Not liking someone and not including them in your private event/conversation is NOT bullying.

Lower rating? You ship first.
Give me a sense of humor Lord. Give me the grace to see a joke.
To get some humor out of life and pass it on to other folk.
I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

Want my help with a BTR or backout? All messages sent/posted should be in CHRONOLOGICAL order. Otherwise, I just won't read it.

Re: Tampon Time: A rant about school shoot-outs and bullys
when they took dodgeball, winners and losers, and alot of the stuff you will need to have a chance after school OUT of school because a childs feelings might get hurt is when we really messed our future generations up. Games and all that is hardly to blame.
Parents and their teaching or lack of are the most blames as well as at home abuse/abandoment. Parents have been blaming all but themselves and letting the government step in to parent more and more. This has been happening for along time before it ever happened in middle class white areas. They just do not get reported.
Not to mention how the media gives the shooters their 15 mins of fame.

I think we have different views on what bullying means as I agree kids need to be taught to be tougher, to deal with with things in a healthy manner and everything else you said. However, beating up on a kid because of how he looks, talks, wears, etc, stealing his lunch money which in turn refrains him from eating, or even plunging his head into a toilet as a joke which in turn CAN lead to serious problems if not done correctly IS wrong. The term "bullying" is so washed out of proportion these days.MagickalMemories wrote:I've already approved the topic. Re: Tampon Time: A rant about school shoot-outs and bullys
Couple things I would like to say.
#1: I would like to thank the members who gave their opinions/facts on the topic, I learned a couple of things on what they said.
3eland, I do see your point on the violence in video games. I was a gamer ever since I could remember, and my first video game was Metal Gear Solid on the ps1, and I agree that violence in games don't make people violent. The worse they can offer is tactics on how to do this(Alone in the Dark, the 360/ps3 game, for example. Such as filling gas in empty bottles/using alcahol stuff and tossing them in the air and shoot it to make an explosion) in real life. And honestly, no one is dumb enough to try doing it in real life.
But anyway, what I'm trying to say was I wasn't blaming video games to cause shoot outs, I just wanted to use an example that the massacre that happened wasn't the first time it happen. I must of worded it wrongly, so I appoligise if that was the case. The bottomline was that people shouldn't go to schools and kill innocent civilians, and that those that did because they're simply "evil", are most likely to burn in hell, if it exsist.
Bigdaddy, firstly I would like to take my hat off for you and give you my respect. My father and grandfather haves/had a similar, if not the same job- As you do. I can't imagine the hard work and sacrifices you make, maybe worse then what they had to face. I do know however, that its a stressful job, so I thank you for putting up with it and for helping the country making it a better place.
As for what you said, I do understand on the facts you gave. I can see it in your view, so it makes sense that people can just be born pure evil right from the start. Nothinfg else I can say, but again, I thank you for going through the dangers so we wouldn't have to.
Eric, I thank you for mentioning that you do approve my rant, I honestly was going to pull the plug on posting rants, but now I can do it more confindently.
I also do respect your facts on bullies, and yeah, Disney honestly didn't do a good job on encouraging kids to speak to adults about it. You're right about parents not helping their children in understanding that there's always going to be someone to push you around, and teach them how to handle it, so that explains why I wasn't strong when I was really young. I just hope that when I do get kids of my own, I would teach them on how to tell anyone that is trying to pick on them to back off.
Again, thank you all for your 2 cents on the topic.
#2: As for Tampon Time, the rant I'm putting together at the moment is on a hold, because I want to make sure that I know what I'm talking and try to avoid conflicts with other members so it could be readable for most of the members. I also am trying to focus more on school, so my work may be delayed. Trying to bring up my F in math (I can't stand it), and try doing more homework despite how much I don't like doing it. So when I get my classes in the right grade level, I should be able to resume Tampon Time.
Also, I would like to say thanks to those for who are waiting paticently for my next topic, and wanted to give them an update that I'm still planning on making it, it's just life I have to deal with, and making quality rants on stuff we have to go through or things we can't stand. Again, thanks for those who do support my series of ramble, and keep an eye out for my next topic.
Thank you for reading!
Sincerely,
-Johnny

Sincerely,
-Johnny

Re: Tampon Time: A rant about school shoot-outs and bullys
It was not you blaming video games, it was a much heated topic among the parents of the Columbine shooting. The allegations were that video games made the kids go in and shoot the place up; and still to this day many parents still believe video games leads to violence. So the comment was not directed towards you but the general consensus that video games lead to violence. Apologies if it seemed like I was directing it towards you.Garlicson2 wrote:

Also in addition, as to you making rant posts. As I said in my posting, "as I do enjoy the act of getting things off your chest and sharing your opinions/views with other people" I just wasn't sure that this forum was the best place to discuss this. However, since MM approves I do look forward to discussing future topics.Garlicson2 wrote:

And it's no problem on what you said about video game violence. Anyway, my phone is losing power, so I'm going to log off and let it charge when I get home.

I'll have to elaborate later, as I leave work in 4 minutes. LOL3eland wrote:I think we have different views on what bullying means as I agree kids need to be taught to be tougher, to deal with with things in a healthy manner and everything else you said. However, beating up on a kid because of how he looks, talks, wears, etc, stealing his lunch money which in turn refrains him from eating, or even plunging his head into a toilet as a joke which in turn CAN lead to serious problems if not done correctly IS wrong. The term "bullying" is so washed out of proportion these days.
...priorities... LOL
I think you're wrong. I think you and I agree on what bullying is. I was just referring to what the liberal government (don't get me wrong, I'm no conservative. I'm solidly moderate) ane media is pushing down peoples' throats as bullying.
I don't thing the things you describe should be classified as illegal, per se. I think schools should have RULES against them, but that's different.
Okay. That's my teaser. I'll elaborate more the next time I get to get on BT.
Eric
Lower rating? You ship first.
Give me a sense of humor Lord. Give me the grace to see a joke.
To get some humor out of life and pass it on to other folk.
I think what this situation needs is some imagination.
