Need some advice on stripping plastic HQ minis

Post by Vaeldroth »

Hi all,

I could use your advice. I've got a big pile of Hero Quest minis I'm stripping for trade fodder (or sale, as demand dictates). I'm using the Simple Green technique, but it seems some figures aren't releasing the paint as easily as others. I don't *think* I used any oil-based paints on these minis, but don't quote me on that.

I've soaked them 3 times in simple green for about 4 days at a time, and scrubbed them a bit with a toothbrush to loosen the paint a bit more after each soak. This worked great on all my metal minis, but the plastic results have been less than stellar.

Anyone have any better tips on getting the paint off these plastic minis?

purple power.. available at walmart.

i stipped testors paint off plastic eldar.. after a few days, even th super glue broke down.. but not the plastic.
it also works on resins.
i've used it on finecast as well as the resin spartan games uses for dystopian wars.

I've used Purple Power on other things before, how does it compare to Simple Green?

Edit: just looked this up. Seems like Purple Power is a bit more caustic but still OK. I think I'll give that a shot.

From personal experience Dawn Power Desolve is better than Purple Power and Simple green.

I trued Dawn. it didn't touch testors paint and barely removed GW paint. I got a bottle in my garage I'm trying to find a use for. The wife won't use it to clean.

I think I will try Purple Power. This last lot of minis I got, and some of the ones I dumbly painted with Testors, would not strip with the simple green.

Well, I put the metal minis that need stripping into the Purple Power. Going to see in a few hours if that does the trick.

Purple power is great stuff....wear gloves though! Plastic...I've heard non-acetone nail polish remover can work but I'd look up information before trying.
