Ok, I can't take credit for any of the conversions- my client send all of these to me assembled. The color scheme is also largely his idea- the force is meant to look dirtier and more battle worn than what we normally see in Legion of the Damned.

Pretty much. When painting a flame that you want to light source to be realistic, it is important to get the colors in the right order.
When you're painting flames to look like they were painted onto armor, the rules for making them look realistic don't apply. They're actually done both ways on these guys (check out the techmarine's boots). My client chose the style of flames (with the light outline) but I think they turned out quite nice.
