Re: 2011 Staff Challenge!!!
Have to get the titan into tabletop shape for the 17th. Big apoc game 3500 points per player limit of one Superheavy. Muhahahaaaaaaa!!!!
This was due to ME... last game playing ONLY superheavies. They basically ran roughshod on the other team that only had a few SHs.
I don't think I will get started on painting this year. (Save it for next year.) Someone has to compete with Oaf and Pork!!! I still need to do a TON of detail and do all the armor plating which will proabably take a lot of time as well.
I have actually not been working on it for the last week or so and been working hard on another project that I hope to have completed shortly. I am a little over 3/4 done.

I haven't had a chance to play a game of Uncharted Seas with the Bone Griffons yet, but how can you NOT want to play a game that has undead whales?

Re: 2011 Staff Challenge!!!
I was getting tired of painting Eldar so I started working on some more imperial stuff.
I have been wanting to get these tanks painted for a VERY long time.
Two of these Landraiders have been primed grey since 99 when they were bought on release day for the new landraider style. These bad boys have played opponents that were younger than they are. Nice to FINALLY get them painted.

I like the yellow, Norse.
Is that judicious use of gryphonne sepia in the corners, or some other method.
How long did the LR's take you?
Looks sharp.

Points updated! pork gains 13 points and norse gains a HUGE 73 POINTS! Norse is now IN THE LEAD by 5 points! Congratulations Norse!
However, I have a couple of questions, norse. Do you have a day job? Do you ever leave the house? Is your wife plotting to murder you and burn all your models due to feelings of neglect? Lastly, were you sent back from the future on a mission to protect young John Connor, but had a programming mix-up and now you solely paint models with robotic efficiency?

Re: 2011 Staff Challenge!!!
Oh, and here is the first announcement regarding next year's challenge! The overall idea will remain the same, but there will be some changes. First, the points are going to get overhauled, but I'm not 100% sure just how yet. I've been sounding ideas off of our very own gpfredette and, at the very least, we're probably going to bump ALL 15mm stuff to being valued at a single point unless it's REALLY big. Pretty much everything 15mm I've seen submitted this year has been about as big as a Space Marine so that's my logic behind that one. Honestly, I didn't know what to do with 6mm/15mm last year so I got imp's input. Now looking back I'm not happy with that one.
Also, seeing as this is always going to start at the turn of the new year, I thought of putting in a Resolution Challenge component! Basically, you announce an army with the whole list written up by the end of JANUARY. The army has to contain AT LEAST 40 models to count as an army and you can submit up to FOUR armies for the challenge. (One per season for the crazy painters like norse and pork.) Also, the army has to be AT LEAST 90% unpainted. It has to be something that you are starting pretty much from scratch for the new year. When you complete the army, (as written in your list,) you will earn bonus points for finishing your resolution. I'm thinking a minimum of 15 bonus points and then adding points depending on the number/size of models in the army. (i.e. a Necron army of 40 models would not get as many bonus points as a 300+ model Skaven army.) Once we saw the lists, Gerry and I would mull over how many bonus points each would be worth and come to a consensus. These lists would be public as well so people could follow along with how your army is coming. I would also update the lists with different color text to show which parts had been completed.
That's it for now!

You nailed it. Iyandan Darksun with gryphonne sepia and some badab black in areas.I like the yellow, Norse.

I love GW Foundation paints. I remember doing 20 coats of yellow to achieve a sub par intensity in yellow. Now it is a first coat and then a heavy drybrush of the same color to give me the right surface. I use a cross hatching style, to intensify the color. I do water down the foundation paints so they don't get to globby.
They took me about a week to get the basics done, actually before I started my titan, and then about the last 2 weeks to do detailing. There is actually 2 more coming that I am still working on detailing. The dreads were actually done in 2 nights. I don't paint every night but proabably about 2-3 nights a week while watching TV with the wife.
YesHowever, I have a couple of questions, norse. Do you have a day job? Do you ever leave the house? Is your wife plotting to murder you and burn all your models due to feelings of neglect? Yes
I have had a few snarky comments lately. You may have a point.
No
I have actually commented to my wife on how much more painting I have done this year. I actually think I have done more painting this year than I have in the last 10 years. Call me Captain Grey commander of the primered legions.
One I think it is definitely is me letting go. I used to be very much like you HZ. Every one of my minis was completed to character level. One Guardsmen took me a an entire night. Everything had multiple highlights and looked really good next to the other 95% of the unpainted army. I always looked at other entirely painted armies and marveled at how good they looked on the table top, and then picked one model up and noticed that it had only a simple quick paint job on it. It took awhile but I developed my own quick style of painting this year, that I think looks good (enough), but really doesn't take all that long to do.
Second, I think my air brush for base colors has sped things up. I will apply a base color to an entire army in a night.
Third, Rockstar energy drink. It REALLY makes a difference. It's like liquid energy & motivation. I have one of these around 5pm after work and will actually be looking for something to get done. I don't do it everyday, but generally I do find my energy levels and motivation are my biggest problem and this really helps.
Fourth, GW New Washes and Foundation paints. I'm a big fan.

Re: 2011 Staff Challenge!!!
I use a large brush and use 90degree perpendicular strokes to feather the paint. It's a technique i learned painting canvas.
It's almost like I polish the paint already applied. It gives a nice finish and a smooth transitions between blends. But also works well with creating a nice smooth finish for large flat vehicle panels.
Best way to show it is this;
