So what's the policy on bumping trade threads?

Post by bielmic »

We didn't have to worry about it before as responding to a thread didn't bump it up to the top previously but I've noticed that my thread is going WAAAAAAAAY down the queue because I didn't bump it. There are alot of 40k trade threads that have been bumped with "updated" meaningless posts; is this now OK with the downtime and lack of regular features? Is the 1 thread per week rule still in effect? I don't mind waiting my turn if everyone else is but that doesn't seem to be the case at the moment.

Same as before, don't. irregardless of board issues the rule stands and is being addressed as mods see them.

Precisely.
Those taking advantage of our temporary "rebuilding" status will see themselves hit with official board warnings.

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

So they shouldn't be bumping with posts like "updated' or "pics added" then?

Nope.
I mean, if the posts are a week od (4 days for BT+ members), it's fine.
Otherwise, it's a rule violation. We've been sending out notifications on those. If you see it, feel free to hit the "Report" button. It's semi-anonymous (only staff whii know who reported it).

If one goes back to Edit a post to add pictures / more information, does that bump it up?

Say I have an add with 3 things, I trade 1. I want to update the post and say traded on that item (by editing the post). Will that bump? If so, is that considered a violation? Or is only a 'reply' a bump violation?
Mike

- A simple 'not interested' to a trade offer is just being polite. It helps people setting up multiple trades know where they stand.
- Google something for someone, they get an answer. Teach someone how to Google their own answer, they own the Internet.

Editing your post to indicate any changes is the preferred method. Making the changes with a post of "Changed XYZ," or just adding a post with your amended list is just a (less than) sneaky way of trying to get past the "no bump" rule for many people.

Thanks for the clarification. There are a few ! coming your way after my Sisyphean lunchtime sweep of the forum looking for stuff I'll never get to while trying to get rid of the same.

Is the new bumping thing going to go away sometime? Between the bumping idiots and genuine people responding to post it's hard to tell new trade threads from something I've already seen.

It's going to go away as soon as Adam can get the MOD reinstalled and running. Until then, it's an annoyance that we're all just going to have to deal with. : (

Any news on restoring the once per week post allowance and no bump with replies system?

No nothing new on that front. We continue to respond as quickly as possible on those who don't follow the rule.

It's appreciated. I'm sure you're annoyed with having to deal with them.

Yeah. It seems to be catching on, though. Im noticing that there seem to be less getting locked lately.
