Dark Eldar: How to use Raider crew in a unit

Post by MagickalMemories »

So, I had four pro-painted Raiders that came from Ebay. Part of the package is that all of the crew comes painted.
I have ZERO desire to have a bunch of crew models hanging off of my Raiders, so they were just sitting around.

I hated the idea of them going to waste, so I decided I'd try to make them so that they can be used on the tabletop.
I threw together some bases and painted them up. The tile colors match the colors I'm using on my resin Dragonforge bases.

Here's what I came up with. Eight Warriors ready to go:

So, if you're wondering what to do with your existing crew models.... Here you go.

Note that I did not paint or assemble the actual Warrior models, just the bases. Had I assembled the models, they'd have splinter rifles.

Nice work. Simple and effective.
I've been pondering the same situation with my upcoming Landspeeder Storm. So many dudes hanging off the sides makes for an easily snagged and/or broken model. I knock over my Marines all the time with my sweatshirt or hockey jersey when leaning over the table to reach something.

Did you pin the Warriors so you can interchange them??? Now that would be cool...

A guy at the flgs pinned his so he could take them off the vehicle to paint; them & it, and store them & it.

Just an idea. It requires drilling and leaing holes in the vehicle, but that's shouldn't be anything major.
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)

Nope. No pins. Just glue.
I added "tile" plasticard to bases & roughly trimmed them. Then, I found CoD bits that the models fit on & trimmed them down (sone would've been a good inch or more higher in the air, otherwise), then plastic glued that to the base.
Painted the bases.
Once the bases were painted & sealed, I *gasp* scratched off the paint from the base & from the model where they'd be touching.
Gluing plastic to plastic = good
Gluing PAINT to PAINT = baaad
LOL

As for pinning them to the vehicles, I simply did not want them on there. I think their presence makes the vehicle look too cluttered.

I will be doing the same with my Venom crew, too!
