Re: New DE releases

I'm not a huge fan of having three crew members on the back of the Venom. I mean, the vehicle only has a transport capacity of 5. If it's only 5 because they're are group of crazed hitch hikers hanging on I'd give them das boot. I suppose they're OK if you're using the Venom to carry a squad of Trueborn or Bloodbrides, but Incubi, for example, would make no sense visually. The crew on the Raider isn't so bad as the model isn't so cramped.

Like chaos space marines using rhino chassis and what not?
Not exactly. Craftworld Eldar and Dark Eldar are divergent groups with vastly different cultures--one group resides solely on spaceships (and have for 10,00+ years), and the other live in a...well...Commorragh is sort of vague, but essentially a city within the webway. Thus, while both societies are semi-hermetic, there are rather profound differences.

You're right that, from a fluff perspective, it would make sense for the two groups to share a similar design or tech root--and we do see this expressed in their use of jet bikes and grav technology. But there are differences, too, such as the Wave Serpent and the Raider.

My primary argument about the Venom and the fighter is that they look like slightly pointier Eldar vehicles, rather than the bastard, evil children of Eldar vehicles.

@Gaijin
What sorrow said, with the addition that DE are not Chaos tainted. In fact, they went to the webway to avoid being found/caught by Slaanesh. This way, they can continue to be decadent but unharmed, whereas the puss... err... Eldar decided to change their ways.

@HZ
I don't even use the crew in my vehicles, so it wouldn't really matter to me. Seems easy enough to just leave them off.
It's a good way to denote what is in the vehicles (these are my Wych Raiders, these are my Warrior Raiders, etc), with incubi raiders just being left crewless.

@sorrow
If you look at the razorwing & Venom, at least they share a strong commonality in design features.
I agree with you that I'd have liked to see them "Darkened" a bit. Any kits I build will be appropriately Darkened with left over Raider and Ravager bits.

Yep--drawn straight from the Eldar. :lol:

All I can hope is that this presages the plastic Thunderbolt kit.

Jes did design both lines.

He's also mentioned in some of the blog interviews that the Eldar are looking a bit dated and due for a visual overhaul as well... ;)

More flowers, [wild daisies and pansies] and butterflies

or the tech route? [more logical? ;-)] {Daddy Spock?}

Sorry couldn't resist.

So, GW released some looks at the new "finecast" Dark Eldar models...
Here are some photos:

Image
The Wracks are $33 for 5 models.

Image
The Grotesque is $20.75 for 1 model. A price that just LOOKS like it will need an adjustment upwards in the near future. :-D

Image
The Haemonculus is $18.25 for 1 model.

Any thoughts? I have my own opinions, but I would like to hear some others before I weigh in too deeply.

Wracks look like evil samurais in leather. One has a tetsubo and the other has a sword. Both held in a asian position.

Finecost is too expensive. It's bullsh**.

The Wracks are okay, but should have been multipart plastics - 5 or 10 to a box. Comsidering that an army can have up to 60 of them, people are going to get tired of looking at the same models repeatedly.

Don't even get me started on the Congatesque.

I agree the Wracks should have been plastic. I couldn't believe the Scourges got made in plastic, but the Wracks are resin. It should be the other way around since Wracks can be taken as troops.

Have to agree on the wracks/scourges. Not only because of the reasons you mentioned but also because the wracks look "stiff", almost obviously fake models. On the other hand, the scourges are more dynamic and appear to have far finer detail which the resin would be able to highlight more. Its almost as though it is wasted on the wracks.
I like the venom and razor wing models. Were I to have a DE army, I would rather magnatize guys to ride on the back and then, I would likely only do one to mark which unit was riding so I could remove them after disembarkation. As I alternate units between transports and all from game to game, I would not want it to be "stuck only representing one type of passenger". Besides, I'm not a fan of having it show passengers on the model after they arent in it anymore.
Treat other members with the same dignity, respect and honesty you would like to be treated with.
