Clash for the Cure 2011! American Cancer Society Warmachine

Post by Stanislav »

Hi guys! I am definitely from the old school of Bartertown, and generally I don't post a lot in the Discussion Forums, but...I need to get the word out! What better place? At one time I was a pretty avid player of both 40K and WHFB in the Central Texas area. I kind of fell away from my GW days several years ago, only to come back as a Warmachine and Hordes player.

In my GW days, I was a partner with Tom Keegan in making the Hombre Independent Grand Tournament in Killeen TX. It was a blast, but when my partner moved away to Florida for his job, the Hombre went dormant. It's been percolating in my head for several years but really just couldn't get the motivation to move forward with anything. The Hombre's last roll call held 94 players and was a proud member of the Independent Grand Tournament Circuit.

Finally I have gotten the kick in the rear I needed to move forward. I wanted a little more behind me than just the "good time" a tournament organizer gets out of their creation. LOL. I have been surrounded in both my personal life and professional life with all forms of cancer. I couldn't think of a better benefit than the American Cancer Society. So with that in hand, Clash for the Cure 2011 was born.

The event is to be held in Waco Tx at the Game Closet. The tentative date (and it may vary by a week or so) is October 15th. I know it's early, but to get this thing moving in the direction I wanted with prize support, terrain, and a venue...I kind of had to. We are fixing to be heading into convention season and I needed to see what kind of feeling I could get from some gamers in my area and abroad.

So the plans are for a 4 game tournament with lots of prizes, trophies, and just an awesome day of playing Warmachine&Hordes.

We'll be doing pre-registration later on, just trying to get the word out now.

The plan is for this to become an annual event, but I need some support and this is where you guys come in.

Any of you that are even remotely interested and have a facebook account, please head over there and search for Clash for the Cure and hit the LIKE button. I need as many likes as I can on there before I start calling up the big names in order to show I have lots of people interested. Here is a link:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Clash-for ... 9178982880

If you click on the link, you can see I have started lining up some prize support for the event. Privateer Press Forum painters like Althai, Ghool, and our own Garden Ninja have expressed some interest. In fact I have been able to nail Althai and Ghool down which is absolutely awesome! A couple of other gaming companies have shown and finalized some interest as well.

Some of you may see me on different parts of Bartertown trying to buy or trade for some Privateer models I need for prizes, as this first year...the budget is tight and I am going to start out smallish with only 46 slots for the tourney. As I said, I plan on making this an annual event, and the venue will definitely get bigger!

Please post here as well so we can all see who's interested!

Thanks alot guys,

Rich Courtney

Definitely count me in :), and I'll do my best to bring some of my Houston Renegades Club with me!
Lower Rating? You ship first unless we agree otherwise regardless whether it's a sale or trade of miniatures. Feedback is there for a reason. This ISN'T Ebay, your Ebay Refs DON'T matter here, this is Bartertown! If your feedback is significantly lower, I expect you to ship first, even if I'm buying- Money carries greater risks than minis: I can't buy groceries with a box of Tac Marines! Offers are good for 24 Hours, otherwise void.

Count me in as well, although I'm not sure if I'm part of the Houston Renegades Club just yet.

David,

Absolutely! No club sponsorship needed! Definitely get on the Facebook page so you can keep up with all of the happenings, as when details are being distibuted, that will be the first place to look!

BTW, Cody's (IW83) Renegades seem to be more of a Horde from Houston!

Rich, do you have a PG helping you...maybe getting a little freebies from PP to support you? Ahh, never mind, I see you got Matt Wilson' s attention.

Scot
General expectations
lower rating ships or pays first
similar ratings ship simultaneous
good communication, even if not interested would be nice
deals are swirling, so what's there today might be gone tomorrow
if you want pics, ask, i'm usually agreeable to that
priority or first class unless otherwise agreed upon

Yeah, I have a few PGs around, trying to keep them free to rally the troops though.

Time for me to pay back for all the support the IFL event got. Don't know what it will be yet, but I and the IFL will be supporting this event.

Don,

We are glad to have you! I have been part of Bartertown for quite a while, and just posting up my intentions had several people sending me PMs with ideas of support. I have had models donated, people volunteering their time like Bitzjunkie, and many other well-wishers.

As I explained in my initial post, this isn't my first rodeo with a tournament, but I have to say that I wish the internet would have been as "developed" as it is now, because things have become so much easier. Social networking? As much as some people complain about it, it has been a blessing in getting word out and then even with getting sponsorship. I'm sure it helps a lot that the event is supporting the American Cancer Society. I mean, I cold-called a couple of people (cold e-mailed?) and as expected, I was shot down by several. The others were surprising. It's tragic how cancer has touched so many lives in so many areas...almost everyone can relate. And by relate, I mean help. I won't mention names of certain companies because they aren't Bartertown advertisers...but they were throwing $200-300 (retail admittedly, not their cost) worth of terrain my way just because I had gone through the red-tape of getting the "Ominus-Dominus" from the American Cancer Society.

I have never approached any "stores" so to speak that carried Warmachine/Hordes because I am holding the event at my LGS the Game Closet in Waco Tx. Getting someone like Neal from the Warstore (I didn't even have those pipedreams to begin with) to sponsor my tournament with prizes...didn't seem kosher. I've been on the lookout for smaller gaming companies trying to break out a little bit with related items that wouldn't step on my LGS's toes.

On the other hand, there have been several other Bartertowners that have messaged me and asked if they could paint something up as a prize or even just send me a model to put in the prize pool. How awesome is that?

I mentioned to Cody (Ironwarriors83) I was in need of some terrain and he thought he had some stuff stashed away. He couldn't find it, so he bought some more and sent it to me! So...I've been working on terrain this early in the game with plans for some more tables that Bitzjunkie is helping me flesh out. Needless to say, I have a lot of stuff coming in from some companies that I will have to get painted up, but I think I can handle it. My wife has been awesome in helping out.

This whole experience so far has really opened my eyes as to our community here on Bartertown, and I was a fan before.

Rock on Bartertown!

Okay guys, just a little update. Terrain is in full swing, gotten several contributors in the form of "corporate" type sponsorship. Several well received painters have joined up as well.

The plan is for all of these people that are travelling to Waco Tx (yes, I admit, there's not a whole lot to offer in Waco but it is kind of centrally located) I've got some swag lined up (still waiting to see artist proofs), door prizes, and a raffle.

The raffle is going to made up of models from the professional painters. Garden Ninja is in there, as well as Terarin, popg0estheworld, Ghool, Althai, and several others that I am waiting for more confirmation back from. I mean, who wouldn't buy a $2 raffle ticket for the chance to win a model painted by a published painter? My hopes are that people will buy more than one obviously!

Door prizes. Well, like I said, I have some people and businesses that have donated items (all gaming stuff) which are going to go into the prize pool. Because I am a little twisted, I'm going to give them away in a Chinese Xmas fashion. Number called, that person gets to put his name by the item. Next person has the opportunity to "steal" that item or get another. And the game goes on. Of course for this, I need lots of items. Don't have to be gate-crashing in size or complexity, just gaming (Warmachine/Hordes) related. Anyone got any extra models that they are just never going to get to? Painted, assembled, in blisters or baggies...it's all fair game.

I've done scrounging myself and have some, but I could use some more. PM with any questions.

Thanks for reading guys.

Special thanks to Salix for giving me the idea with his kind donation. The hopes are that I can do 2 rounds, but if I don't get enough, I can do a heckuva one round!
