Finished! DH Inquisitor & BfM Pilot

Post by GearHead »

Been working on the Inquisitor off and on for almost two months, and cobbled together the Pilot over the last week. Feedback and advice (especially advice!) are always welcome!!

A few trade guidlines:
1) If your feedback is significantly lower, I expect you to ship first, even if I'm buying- Money carries greater risks than minis: I can't buy groceries with a box of Tac Marines!
2) Communication is key! I'm a reasonable guy (I try,) so if there's a problem, tell me!
3) I package things well, you should do the same. Protect minis from each other, too.
4) Leave feedback!

I like the glowy blue in the pilots box, and the red pucker where his cables connect to the back of the head..
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Folks I am awaiting a ref from.. Zack

Thanks guys!

I don't think I actually did any highlighting on the Inquisitor's helmet; it's probably just glare (my matte varnish isn't as matte as I would like.) I'm actually not happy with the shading on his tan robe, but that was one of the first things I did and I kinda neglected to go back and try to fix it. It's probably just as well, as I would most likely have just made it worse. The main reason I did this guy was because I wanted to try my hand at his cloak/cape, which I'm rather pleased with, but I have to admit that the picture's a bit more flattering with the shade transitions than in real life!

I really like the color of the pilot's test tubes, too. At first I was going to make them purple or red to contrast more with his flight suit and carrying case, but figured "what the heck" and kept it consistent. It's a nice enough effect, and I'm getting a little more used to using thin glazes and getting the right balance between super-thin paint and loading my brush just so. It's amazing how a tiny bit of additional highlight color can make a huge jump in contrast on the surface! It took me a while to get the red inflammation around his head sockets to transition more smoothly with the normal skin, too.

Yeah. You're all about the red pucker. LOL

@GH

What matte varnish do you use, that you're unhappy with it?

This one's Krylon, and I've used Citadel and Americana, all with similar results. I actually don't mind all *that* much, but it's drawn frequent comment in the past. I suppose I ought to bite the bullet and shell out the extra for Testors or something.

It's the best. Perfectly matte.

I like to give a coat or 2 of gloss, then a couple coats of Testors matte.
