Wrack Conversion (semi) WIP. Feedback appreciated.

Post by MagickalMemories »

Here are 3 wrack conversions I'm putting together to "count as" Haemonculi with a bunch of painted stuff I have coming. Since I intend on having 3 Wrack units, these will be my Acothysts, when the units are ready & I have other Haemonculi.

This one is almost complete. It just needs a last look for flash clean up and a little greenstuff work in the right armpit (not visible in the images):

The above wrack is a mixture of 5 kits.
Empire Flagellants for the legs (had to hack off the torsos - good times!)
Vampire Count Ghouls for the torso (had to hack off the lower section. Sliced into my thumb nicely on one of the ones not shown!).
Left UPPER arm is from the ghouls, too (lower arm removed).
Left LOWER arm is a Warrior Agonizer lower arm.
Right arm(s) is/are from Tzeentch Horrors
Head is from Reaver Jetbike kit.
I think the Reaver heads are my favorite part.

Note that all joins are fastened with Testors "Liquid Cement" plastic glue. I love the stuff!

This image shows a few of my changes:
Image

The circled gauntles on the upper right arm shows where the tzeentch symbol was filed off. Looks incomplete, but is smooth.
the circled area right behind the helmet shows the bicep area on the upper right arm. As this section is normally glued to the side of a Horror, I actually had to file it down and carve some muscular definition into it.
Still needs a bit of work, but looks beter than the image portrays.

The circled area on the left arm shows where the ghoul upper arm was plactic glued to the Warrior lower arm.

The next models have no arms, but will be completed similarly (one with a power weapon from the same kit - don't like to waste) and I haven't decided on the weapon for the other.
I'm also contemplating adding another weapon or metal claw hand to these models to represent the second CCW (for when they're wracks again).

Model #2.
Note that the head looks lopsided from the front. this is just due to the unulual way I have him "gazing" off to his right:

As the pictures show, the waist lines from the legs and torso don't match up perfectly. A bit of filing is in order.

Model #3.

On this one, I used a relatively "non-standard" torso, in that it has a SKELETON STRAPPED TO IT! LOL
I'm contemplating a bit of greenstuff on the torso to represent flayed skin, and a warrior helmet. I mean, he's got to get his spare aprts SOMEWHERE! Right?

Note: the skeletal torso hasn't been cleaned yet, as it may be unnecessary. LOL Mold line cleaning will follow if requited.

This one has my favorite head to torso fit.
I had to hack off some of the hairs (will be more spike-like, when I'm done) so the helmet would fit, but I love that the angle of the helmet follows perfectly in line with the "hairs."

*Note to self* I just noticed some flash on the belly of the ghoul torso that needs handling

So, folks. What do you think?

Oh. In case it matters... the bases are temporary. I have some BEAUTIFUL Dragon Forge bases for the whole army!

those are pretty sweet. me, i'm not going in the raggedy, frankenstein-monster sewn up together monstrous distorted ghoul look myself. i plan to make my Wracks and Grotesques reflect the fact that the Haemonculi have the most advanced technology in the galaxy. they're gonna be creepy and have some horror-movie elements - spines coming out their backs, blades for hands, etc. but i'm avoiding the VC range ghoul parts for example. that's just my aesthetic. but as for yours, i do like the creepy hunched-over thing. cant wait to see more, and when i get a WIP to a point where i can show it off, i will!

I get it.
All I'm trying to do is *reasonably* (LOL) represent what's in the codex, while keeping them "GW legal" as much as possible.
Barring using the new Wrack models coming out (I don't like metal models), this was about the closest look to it I could find.
I'm not a big fan of the "hairy" backs, but I'm making due. : )

Thanks for the input. I look forward to seeing your stuff!

so the GW-release Wracks are going to be metal? BOOO!!!! maybe i should think a little more about keeping my conversions "legal" in case i ever get a chance to play. i'm enjoying making my own anyhow. it's a little slow-going, but i should have one WIP to show off by the weekend or so. and you should see the Grotesques i'm cooking up. i had some good ideas coming home on the bus today, and the giant runaway train of clawed limbs and hulking muscle is gonna blow y'all away (for REALZ)

Start a thread on them, when you do. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you've got!

I have a grotesque built, but it won't come out right in pics. I'm going to wait to post it after it's painted.

you know, with the hunched-over pose of your Wracks, i see how the Reaver heads are much better than the Wych heads. i look forward to seeing a finished one!

They're "finished" as of last night.
I still want to tidy up the filing in a couple places, and I might ad a bit onto the skin I added onto the skeletal torso.
At some point, I might even sculpt "flames" onto one hand each, to represent liquifiers. Dunno.

Close enough to call done, though!

On this guy, you can see where I GS'ed the joins, added flesh to the torso and added a DE Warrior Power Weapon arm to the Tz Horror arm. Funny thing it that it'sthe ENTIRE DE warrior arm, but only MOST of the Horror FOREARM. LOL

Sadly, I just can't seem to get a pic that shows the post of this guy properly. He looks like he's hunting for victims. LOL
All arms are Tz Horror arms. I manages to trim the right arm so nicely that no GS was needed to fill in joins at the gap.
It's hard to tell in the pics, but the GS on the left shoulder follow the torso contours fairly well, for an amateur with GS. : )

you know, i think i am going to steal your idea of using Horror arms - the DE ones are kinda small, and even if the Horror ones are a little bit too long/big, the dis-proportion only adds to the weirdness of the Wracks, so it would probably work out. so far my guys are very tame compared to yours, but my Grotesques are gonna be big, hulking nightmares. hopefully i'll drop some pics soon.

Please, do. I look forward to seeing them.

The Tz arms were totally on a whim. I knew I wanted to give one or more of them 3 or 4 arms. The Tz Horror kit was the only one I knew of with this possibility. I bought it on a whim, after looking at the sprues on the GW site. I didn't know whether they'd work or not.
At the time I bought them, I had no idea the length would be do amazingly disproportionate. I was disappointed at first, but grew to like them once I actually saw them on the model. The shoulders need trimming and no small amount of filing to be close to working, but it's plastic, so it's easily accomplished. The most difficult/annoying part is on arms that are meant to butt up against a Horror torso, but stand out against the Wrack. Essentially, I had to file and carve detail into the bicep a couple times.

Those are well done. Look like they could be evil cultist in a gothic horror setting as well.

Thanks.
I've kinda stalled out on them in favor of other projects.

I'm painting 2 RPG characters for players in my D&D campaign, with a 3rd in the wings
I'm Painting an ork nob for an 11 year old kid. I helped one of the ladies in my D&D game get him some WHFB Boys here for Christmas and I gave him handfulls of olf MK minis and a few DDM's. He was so ecstatic that he painted up a boy for me... So, I'm returning the favor.
I'm also painting up my FW Mega Dread. I'm taking my time, working slowly & doing it right.
All this while assembling Dark Eldar with special weapons to use as Kabalite trueborn (These will be sent to Garden Ninja when they're done).

So... yeah... Wracks got put on pause for a bit. LOL
