2011 Staff Challenge!!!

Post by HarlequinZero »

Hey all,

So, as a way to ring in the New Year I've organized a small painting challenge amongst the staff. We're going to try to use this to up our painted models for the year and, at the same time, give all of you a little peek into our lives as hobbyists. The challenge is very non-specific on what you need to paint, just that you get your butt in gear and paint. Each model we paint will be worth a set amount of points based on the size of the figure. The following list will be the rough guideline. If something merits special attention it might get extra points. We'll have to judge that on a case by case basis.

Using just GW and PP minis as the main examples with some 6mm and 15mm stuff thrown in per imp522's request:

Regular infantry, 6mm inf./vehicle stands, 15mm inf. = 1pt.
Ogres, Ogrun, Trolls, Light Warjacks, 15mm Cavalry, 6mm large vehicles = 2pts.
Cavalry, Bikers, 15mm tanks = 3pts
Heavy Warjacks, Manticores, Hellpit Abominations, Smallish Vehicles, 15mm Big Stuff = 5pts.
Large Vehicles (Land Raiders, Valkyries, Trygon, WM War Engines) = 8pts.
Really HUGE Stuff (Titan, Stompa, Baneblade, etc...) = case by case

This contest will run from January 1st till December 31st. So far the participants will be imp522, Norseman, s_o_r_r_o_w, porkuslime, Linrandir, Morlock, and myself. If you want to see any of your other favorite staffers participate feel free to PM them with encouraging words.

Pictures will be posted in this thread as will running point totals.

CURRENT POINT TOTALS!!

#1 - Norseman - 612pts
#2 - porkuslime - 607pts
#3 - imp522- 450pts
#4 - HarlequinZero - 50pts
#5 - gpfredette - 41pts
#6 - Linrandir
#6 - Morlock-Bloodletter
#6 - s_o_r_r_o_w

I'm totally not staff but I'm going to keep track of what I get done just in case it's more than Matt or Eric so I can poke fun at them afterwards!!! ;)

PS I finished 10 Beastmen last night so I'm off to a good start! (They were the first minis I've painted since June but who cares!)

It WILL be more than me.
I expect to paint two dozen or less models this year.

I'll be assembling the H*LL out of some stuff, though.

Well, here are my first contributions to the challenge. 4 Shredders for the Legion of Everblight. These I took a little bit of time on, but they're still pretty quick paint jobs by my standards. Second is a pair of Skaven. These are an exercise in speed painting. I'm trying to use a Skaven army to kill the habit of taking extreme amounts of time on every figure. Skaven are dirty creatures and lend themselves fairly well to speed painting and not necessarily looking fantastic.

I'm very pleased to see a few more entrants in this challenge as well.

So, the points total now is:

imp522 - 21pts.
HarlequinZero - 6pts.

Don't expect me to keep this pace.

Wow, I haven't seen anyone paint Warlord minis in months! Great stuff.

Indeed. I've got a Cryx army fashioned after Batman villains. Middle Pillar Path Painting was kind enough to paint up the majority of the units, but some of the centerpiece models are on my painting table now. :-D

Expect pics before too long...
