I'd like to see more advertiser postings, this is a good place to check out their clearance racks and ads.

Question About Advertisors

Post by TrademasterAdam »

With Bartertown Plus in full swing, ( viewtopic.php?f=1&t=126800&p=253171#p253171 ) I'd like to revisit the advertiser agreements and see if there is something we can do to better integrate them into the site.

I voted in favor of banner ads and greater advertiser posting.
To clarify, though, my pro-banner ad vote was for what we have now, rather than increasing the # of locations we have them. Those sites that have banners between each set of forums drive me nuts. IMO, have one at the top & be done with it!

Let the advertisers have their own section, like we have now.
When I want to shop, I look here 1st, then elsewhere.
I hate banner ads. The slow down the entire site.
Yahoo mail is terrible. You can't even see you new ones unti the ad downloads and starts.

Could it be set up where the advertising banners went down the sides? Or having more than one banner showing? Give them more visibility.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

If by advertiser postings you mean just topics in threads then that might be OK, but I like that they have their own section. If they intend to post specials or great deals as you hint to in the poll that would be great but if they are just going to post the same ads more often than that isn't so good.
As to banners I also hate them. My primary browser is really old but it's what I like. There are several sites that I have trouble with, most of it stemming from flash ads and banners I suspect. If we have to have them keep them like they are now, simple and limited to one at the top of the page.

If banner ads are slowing your computer down, then maybe it's time to get a better computer or internet provider. Seriously, the days of minimalistic webpages are done. The internet is only going to get flashier, and if you don't upgrade to keep up with the times; you are just going to fall to the wayside.

I think more is fine. I generally ignore them until I think I needs something then look for them.

I already ahve used one or two.

I think the setup that is going now is pretty nice. There are enough banners to keep interest and visibility, but not clog up the site with ads and horrible, loathesome pop-ups.

On a side note, I would very much like to see more actual posts from many of the advertisers. I really appreciate their support of Bartertown, but it seems like there are only a handful of them that actually update their websites or post here with sales/updates/random info. Garden Ninja, Base Contacts, and Wargamers Cave do a great job of that, and I check out their sites and posts whenever I am looking for their respective merchandise . Even if it is just along the lines of "We are still here, and just got in/made/covered in butter this new stuff. Check it out!"

I understand this is entirely up to the advertisers, but maybe they will read this and think about it.
