Partha Pewter

Post by astrosmash »

Hopefully this is random enough for this category :)

I've done some research on this and I haven't been able to come up with conclusive answers.

In the late 80's-early 90's I got Partha Pewter figs as gifts- local gift stores and mall kiosks sold them. They had little crystals as accent pieces. Were these just regular gaming figures that gift shops glued stuff to and sold for higher margin? Would it be completely insane to paint these or are they actually collectables? (I'm
leaning towards painting them- the dragons look pretty cool) Thanks for any information you have!

I had one of these some time ago. I bought it cause I thought it looked like a cool collectible. Then I noticed the Ral Partha logo on the bottom side and found out that they're nothing more than regular figs with crystals attached. At the time (1993?) I looked into whether they were special, but found that they were in fact standard figs.

Thanks for the info!

Anyone know if these were used in a specific game?

That's about the size of it.

Essentially, they were higher quality models than the ones we were gaming with, because the ones we were gaming with were made up of all kinds of cheap-ass metals. LOL The ones at gift shops, etc., were pewter.

IMO, you're not likely to get much, if anything, for them.

At the very least I would check some books on collectibles. The fact that they were made of a different metal than the other gaming pieces could in fact make them collectibles. Small differences and low production runs are what make things a collectible. Kinda like that elusive Batman #14, or the GI Joe Grunt Action figure that came in a different color green.

Ral Partha also got the rights ot the star trek minis for star fleet battles. They released these as well in pewter, the quality of the castings didn't increase.

Well now that I've been enlightened I will be contacting GW. Maybe they can cast me some orks in pewter with magic power crystals :)
