Etiquette Question
I agreed to a deal with a guy about a month ago. I had no idea what the value of my things were, so I offered him a very low price and not surprisingly, he accepted. I was annoyed once I found out the value, but I had made the offer, so I was willing to stick with it.
He said he needed about a week to get the money together. I told him that it was no big deal.
Two weeks later, I asked what the status was, and he said it would be 3 more days. I was okay with that.
Now it has been two MORE weeks, and he is not answering PMs or emails.
----------
Two questions:
1. Am I justified in deciding that the deal is off? The agreement was paypal, so the check can't be lost in the mail or anything.
2. Is there a place to comment on his breaking the deal? We had agreed that he would pay on a specific date, and he didn't. I had gotten a much better offer on the item in the mean time while I was waiting for him, but that person has now filled thier need, so this waiting has cost me.
3. Should I just drop it and move on? Or should I continue to attempt to pursue it?
-------------
Ok, so that was three questions. I can't count. Get over it.

Are you reading this line?
First off, I'd consider myself fortunate and call the deal off. Whatever it is you were going to take a technical "loss" on is now up for (higher paying) grabs.
Secondly, my personal opinion is that if you can show proof of your allegations, it qualifies for a Bad Trader report. By BT standards, however, it doesn't.
I'd just put that person on my personal "Don't Trade" list and move on!

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

consider yourself lucky because the person might have been hard to get your stuff from.
something sorta like this happened to me to make me more leary. this guy was looking for some non GW stuff and has some OOP GW stuff i wanted and told him i could get it but had to buy it, but he had to trade for all of it. he agreed, i bought the stuff and he backed out of the deal. so i was out about $55.00.
i personally consider an agreement on bartertown as a written agreement.
even if hindsight would show me getting the short end of the stick, or even financial problems, its still an agreement that i have to follow through with.
we all know in this day an age the younger traders word alone dont mean *edit* but a written agreement does (at least should).
where i come from i was tought your word means something.
but if someone is him-hawing around about the trade itself, just stay out of it.

Well, now, Orcdom. I agree with just about everything you said there.
However, though I am nowhere NEAR being a kid anymore, I DO take exception to one part of your post:
Now, I agree that American youths seem to be getting less and less... dignified(?) as generations pass... and I'd imagine that feeling to be echoed in many other societies.
I was a teen in the eighties. We were loud, obnoxious, rude and were BIG into "examining the seedier side of life."
Even in the relative few years that have passed, it seems that the general attitude of teens has gone down the pooper. It seems that they are even MORE "out there" than we were. I could detail my opinion for hours, but I won't. I'll suffice to simplify for simplicity.
Still, though, I think it is wrong to generalize the younger generations. Almost all of the young traders I've encountered have been of quality.

That's bogus, man. There are numerous traders here who are teenagers who have darn good ratings.we all know in this day an age the younger traders word alone dont mean *Edit for Content* but a written agreement does (at least should).

here may be the difference, but alot of kids are not taught the same way as we were. alot of kids dont have any scruples. some do, there are quite a few here because the ones that arent are run off or change their ways one.
i was a hellraiser/juvenile delinquent when i was a teenager in the 90's myself but still if i agreed to something i came through with it.
kids today alot of them have the "me, me, me" attitude and it affects everything from trading here to being out in the workforce.
i wasnt meaning to generalize the whole age group, didnt want it to come across that way. i am pretty sure quite a few of the trades i have completed had been with the younger teens. and have had good experiences for the most part, but it only takes a couple bad apples to give you a bad taste.

AMEN, brother. Preach that gospel.
I am with you 100% on that post!
(Except that my hellraising teen years were the 80's... By the 90's, I was in my hell raising twenties!!

I happen to be a teen, and I can agree with the jackassery of some people my age in this time. I have had one trade that I couldn't do, and I apoligized and told the guy that I might try to contact him if I were able to trade in the end. I am only 14, jobless, and I play 40k for god's sake. It's expensive and I need to find a way to make money before I do much more on the site.
