I will believe this when I see it. We all know GW's track record on putting out erratas/FAQs.Asif Chaudhry wrote:I would be amazed if the core rulebook addressed an army specific special trait/rule - the exception that proves the rule being the Dwarven magical resistance.LadyAnara wrote:i believe detachments count toward their parent type of slot (core, special, etc..)
I had heard however that there is a giant Errata/Addendum document coming out at the same time as the main rules that has adjustments for all the currently published army books to bring them in line with 8th ed - I would expect to see detachments answered there in the relevant Empire section.

Yeah, so they can errata all the Fantasy armies "right away" but yet in 40k we have to wait years for them to make even one clarification.
I'll believe it when I see it, then again I think the second comming of the great propht Zarquan will be the more likely event to happen. Either that or I'll win they July 10th Tournament around here.
*Personally I think the prophet has a better chance of showing up than my winning a tournament*

Re: 8th Edition Review
I would think that the points would come out of what section they are bought out of. If the detachment is core then it is a core buy. If the detachment is special then it is bought out of special. I can not see it working any other way. Why would archers be bought out of special allotment just because they are attached to a greatsword unit? That wouldn't make any sense.Anyone know how Empire Greatswords will work in percentage list building? Obviously the Greatswords themselves count against special points, but what about their detachments? Does a child unit of halberds count as core since they're a core choice or as special since they're attached to the Greatswords?

Re: 8th Edition Review
I would think they would count toward the unit's cost, and thus the Special limit. Otherwise, they would have to count Corpse Carts for Necromancers as Troops, and Stegadons for Skink Priests as Special/Rare, meaning you could spam a LOT of those characters (especially Necromancers. . .they're 50 points apiece, and the Corpse Carts are Core, so no limit on how many you can have).
I would think that GW will actually be Johnny on the spot with this one. They've used War of the Ring as a trial for many of these rules, and they've (supposedly) play tested for a year. Given that it's such a major overhaul of the rules system and that their tournament, the 'Ardboyz, is a month later, I have to think/hope that the FAQ/Errata would be ready to roll. Yes, they're very slow with the FAQs for codices when they're released, but I don't think they do a ton of play-testing (or, at least, they play-test with a very small group), so they have to see how things operate before they can figure out what has to be fixed. But this is different. This is a complete change of the system, and they've seen it coming from a long way off. We should at least get a simple FAQ/Errata stating "This item does this now, the casting cost of this army-specific spell is this, detachments count as this. . ." I'm sure there will be gaps and glaring confusions, and THOSE corrections are what we'll have to wait months for.

Re: 8th Edition Review
Reegsk You are agreeing with me but saying I'm wrong.
Corpse carts when paired with a Necromancer are mounts, as are the stegadons when used as EotG. Both of which will come from the heroes allotment.
The Detachment rule is just a special way of using already legal units together. I think EVERY empire player would be upset if you had to buy archers(core) in their special allotment just because they were paired with greatswords(special) as a detachment.

Re: 8th Edition Review
Oh, I would be upset if I played Empire and they made that change, too. But what I’m saying is that the only similar precedent of being able to buy something from a Core/Special/Rare choice and pair it with something from somewhere else in the book has it that you count the addition to the cost of the original unit. It would make sense to increase the cost of your Special choice for detachments. Yes, they are a Core choice. But they are purchased to enhance a Special choice. If the two units operated independently of each other, and provided no bonuses to one another, then I would agree that they should count as points spent on Core. But since detachments specifically enhance the unit they are purchased with, then they should count towards the overall cost of that unit. Adding Stand and Shoot handguns to one of the two beefiest infantry units in your army is pretty nice. So is adding a built-in flank charge to increase your combat res and knock out ranks. You don’t need to buy archers, halberdiers, et al as detachments to get their normal advantages on the battlefield. However, when you buy them as detachments, you get another unit and an added ability which buffs another unit.

Re: 8th Edition Review
Okay...Now I see your point. Both ways would be plausible... Cant wait to see what GW does.
Seen something very funny last night. Deamons of Chaos using Light magic.... LOL They used it to get the first strike spell.
All I have to say is 50 HE Spearmen ASF and same or higher Init gives rerolls to hit. = INSANITY. Current best point for point unit in the game in my mind.
All I have to say is there better be at least 40 of them in the new box set - Island of blood. I am buying 4 of them. There better not be a stupid griffin in there either.
I am assuming that HE will be getting 1 more Special and 1 extra rare choice as per the current book.
This is going to be the list to beat.
I call it the Anvil of Asuryan
"Come break yourselves upon the anvil."
5 Ellyrian Reavers - 92
5 Ellyrian Reavers - 92
49 HE Spearmen C/M/S Arcane Pro Banner - 491
49 HE Spearmen C/M/S Warbanner - 486
6 Swordmaster C/M/S - 102
4 Repeater Bolt Thrower - 400
1 BSB MNT Battle Banner -202
1 Lvl 2 Mage - 135

I believe gunline dwarves will be able to cope with that list.

I'd have to agree - I'm more concerned with the Dwarf 2000pt list than your "anvil of T3 elfs". Just my $0.02.Ironhide wrote:I believe gunline dwarves will be able to cope with that list.

Why do they get rerolls "to hit" ?

Re: 8th Edition Review
True, but if I heard correctly, rules for stonethrower-type weapons changed and are now even deadlier. And since dwarves can customize these with runes, that makes them even deadlier. Dwarves have thunderers and quarellers as core choices. Shoot in two ranks? 10 wide? Handgun ignores armor? Yeeeah, dwarves just became nasty. Like they really needed that much help.

Yeah, but Dwarves got boned in combat. Gee, I finally get a charge in first & still strike last??!! No awesome super spells either. Im sure movement will be limited too. Dwarves will have drawbacks.

You already know the drawback is that Dwarves are going be boring as all get out as they'll only have one good build (gunline) and you'll have to play it until the end of eternity.starslayer wrote:Yeah, but Dwarves got boned in combat. Well, the new rules arent giving alot of options other than a gunline or anvil list are they??
