Purple Power Cons: Strength degrades quickly, not useful after two uses.

I have reused CSC multiple times, so I feel it is because of the "knock-off" quality of the product that this is happening for you. Good report though, going to have to at least try the Dawn stuff.

Although, have you tried Pine Sol on metal mini's? I would like to know what you think of it compared to your other heavy hitters.

I used Pine-Sol long ago. It works for metal, not so much for plastic. The smell is a huge drawback, as I've had minis that smelled of pine long after they were re-primed. It also will oxidize metals if left in for any large amount of time. I had one batch that I forgot for a week and the parts were completely black. Some had small pits in them. The paint had turned to rubber cement and wasn't coming off. I tossed the whole mini and started looking for other alternatives.

CSC vs. Purple Power. I've re-used both for lots of batches. They both lose effectiveness at roughly the same rate. Obviously my experience may vary and is hardly scientific proof. I have found that after two large batches of minis either one is too polluted to be half as effective as it was new. Now when I'm stripping 30~40 trooper sized-minis at a time, that tends to be a lot of paint particles...

Bah, you didnt include my all time paint remover(only for metal models) Goof off......that stuffs amazing. Need a glass bowl however.

I haven't stripped minis since a go with Pine-sol on old Space Hulk genestealers back around 1997. Nice article in case I have to give it a go again. Thanks for putting the work into this!

Would it be possible to see an extended test? Say, let the models soak for a week?

I've let models go in Purple Power over a month before. No ill effects on plastic, nor did it remove the white enamel primer that I was hoping to remove. Was there something else you wanted to see or know about extended times Ironhide?

I've got a second batch of zombies soaking in what's left of the Dawn. I was going to check in on them tomorrow night to see if it still had any juice left in it.

As for Goof Off, is that the same or similar to Goo Gone? I tried that once, and yes, it slagged my plastic tub. Kinda decided to avoid it after that.

Was wondering what the effects would be of leaving it in the Dawn for an extended period of time. As some people tend to forget, and leave their models soaking for a month or two. Not that "I" would do that!

I can do that. Based on what I've seen so far I doubt it would ever be a problem, but it's worth looking into. It'll take me a couple of days to get it going. I'll post it when it's ready.

I dont know what goo gone is. Goof off you get in walmart of home depot. Its used to remove glue and paint off various items- I use it for touch up on pianos when the excess gets too much for finish or glue.

Glass bowl, an hour soak tops, brush witha tooth brush and rinse and its done. But absolutely metal models only.

Is there a way to extend the life of say power purple,or to make it stronger so that the soak time is not as long? I had thought about perhaps heating it up to see what that would do,anyone try that or anything else?

Well heat may help soften certain types of paint but why purple power does it's job is it's high PH and active ingredients. The problem is that the PH starts to fade and the active ingredients just get used up.

Really nothing you can do.
