apprentice/journeman...etc

Post by jturner »

So how does this work? I am looking at a guy with 16 references, and he is a journeyman. I have 85,and I am a journeyman. what are the ratings? Do all references count, only separate references form different traders (ie, I do 3 separate deals with the same trader in a month, do I get one ref credit, or 3?) Does the title have anything to do with level of trust I can put in someone, or purely the blue number next to their name (and associated feedback).

I have been looking for a post on this for a few weeks with no luck.

thanks for any help.

The #rating is based on your ref's (+2 for good, +1 for neutral, -10 for bad)
Apprentice, journeyman, etc are based off of post count

You do 3 sperate trades with one user you get 3 refs they are not combined by users, so yes they all count.

I go by ref # the title below just tells me how much they post but really doesn't translate to trades.

Hope that helps,
Dave

Exactly. Well described.

It ratings related directly to post count, I would have more trading clout than Porkuslime... which is obviously NOT the case.

Alot of forums do this, I've seen it with MMO forums; both fan based and developer based. You get a title that aligns with the game, but has nothing to do with you actual character level.

Maybe to avoid confusion, we should have ours imply they deal with posting on the forum; like MM would be post hore, others could be blabber mouth, opinioned [or opinionated] @..

Yes the title tells how often a person posts. The number tells how many reported trades they have. They may have more that are not recorded because references were not done. Also note, that the references are vague. It is either good +2, neutral +1 or bad -10. There is not a lot of leeway as someone can be a super trader and go above and beyond for you but the best ref you can give is "good". Likewise, a trade can totally be horrible but it is easy for the person to intimidate you into giving at least a neutral so they still get points for it or a good even though it was not deserved. Also, read through a few of the persons trades, you will see many "repeat trades" that appear suspicious.
Most traders here are ok though.

After a while, you can get an idea of whom you want to trade with, just by the way the person presents themselves or talks to you.

I have some experience with that though.. so, YMMV..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Porkuslime is right, most of us are perfectly honest and straightforward people that you can tell just by reading our posts that you will get a fair (or more then fair) deal.

Personally, I wouldn't go off of "post contents" in adjudicating trader trustworthiness.

I would use their refs, and not just the numbers. Read the comments. Often you can find a lot of info in there.

Also, protect yourself! Get good contact info (address, phone at the minimum).

I agree.
I don't judge a person's honesty on what they say in the forums (unless they seem like a liar, of course LOL).
Then again, I *do* base who I'm willing to trade with on it. An honest troll is still a troll.

Your right, I have seen a fair few of those over the last few days, however the majority of us are neither liars or trolls.
The comments on the referrals are your best bet. Sorrow brought up a really good point, be sure to get good info and follow a tenet a co-worker once told me, "CYA" or Cover your ass. I try to get sig confirmation so that the person I am trading with cannot say they did not get what I send them.
