Re: GW MODELS
Oh if you just dont like the looks thats perfectly fine, Im just saying you cant really argue it makes no sense or is somehow less practical in this made up world. Feel free to think its ugy all you want
Re: GW MODELS
Out of all the GW models I have ever assembled, the original GW land speeder was the worst by an order of magnitude. It was the only thing I have ever seen where people would look at some one else's and realize one of them had put it together with the main body upside down.

Re: GW MODELS
true on the chicken legs but did u miss the space marines doing the splits and the terminators with no shoulders (look at the head to arm possitions). And dreds don't exactly have great porportions with the tv on the legs.GMMStudios wrote:What?YoungWolf777 wrote: Yep. Same one. Hideous design. It's a walking coffin. Why does it need a head, other than to tell the enemy: SHOOT HERE!
So if you designed a dread it would be a smooth box with two legs and thats it? Because anything extra isnt needed right?
Obviously the corpses head isnt actually in the dreadnoughts head. I mean if you were going to be stuck in a machine for the rest of your undead eternal life, would you want to be in one where the coffin is exposed ready to be opened like a tuna can, or one where your goodies were tucked away more internally? Would you like one that can only see forward and through something similar to your armpit, or one with a freely revolving head that gives you what looks like 90 degree vision horizontally and 45 vertically? Im just saying if I were a space marine and I got blown away I am going to be thanking the Emperor I did enough deeds to get my crispy arse into one of these.
I want my game to look cool. I will go asking "why?" or "how?" when I play something set in reality like a historical. But I have a feeling you were half joking or being sarcastic, seeing as you have a warmachine avatar...and I mean NONE of that game makes ANY sense am I right? From the pauldrons to the chicken leg jacks with...heads

Re: GW MODELS
To be honest, I like the heads on the dreads. They add character and personality to the model where you can more believe that there is an actual "human" inside controlling it. They also make sense. The imperium is ALL about decoration and the marines would want their dreads to have character and be "addressable" (its easier to talk to a "fake face" then a coffin lid). Also, with the sensors on a "head", it makes the transition to dread-dom a lil easier as the marine inside could use his natural learned instincts for looking about and all rather then learning all new ones (which could make a difference in battle) as well as giving a wider range of perception to the dread then if they were set unmoving on a coffin lid.
More important, the heads make them look "cooler" and more personable as models.

...except that they don't get the "head" until they've been around a long time. Strictly referring to GW models, only the Ven Dread has a head.EVIL INC wrote:Also, with the sensors on a "head", it makes the transition to dread-dom a lil easier as the marine inside could use his natural learned instincts for looking about and all rather then learning all new ones (which could make a difference in battle) as well as giving a wider range of perception to the dread then if they were set unmoving on a coffin lid.

So, they go from having a head as a SM, to getting put in a box with a slit for a face. Then, once they learn that, they get the head.
I do agree that the head looks cooler.

Re: GW MODELS
All their dreads (ven or normal) should have heads I think. Thats why the ones with heads look so much better. I'd be tickled pink if they took the walking coffins off the shelves and replaced them with updated regular dreads with heads. They would only need to resculpt the front plates and leave the rest the same.

Re: GW MODELS
well the new plastic ven dreds have the options for both. If you want the coffin lid it comes with the different front, want the head? it comes with 3 types and different sides to put next to the head (the flat shoulder parts). If only the put auto cannons in the box it would be the best kit ever but being $42 compared to the normal plastic dred at $40 i think its a good buy.EVIL INC wrote:All their dreads (ven or normal) should have heads I think. Re: GW MODELS
I have to ask, how many of the sprues do the 3 dread varients share and how hard would it be to put options for all into a single box?

Re: GW MODELS
the new kit has 2 sprews. has 1x assault cannon, 1x las cannon, 1x plasma cannon, 3x different space marine heads (for the lack o coffin), 2x different 'coffin' types with 2 other things to change them up further, has 6x side of coffin/ things that can all be changed up, 2x types of ccw (open grabby hand and 1x reg 4 stub finger hand), 2x collar head protector options, then comes with the reg legs, hflamer, st bolter, reg torso parts ect.EVIL INC wrote:I have to ask, how many of the sprues do the 3 dread varients share and how hard would it be to put options for all into a single box?
if the kit had 1x other sprew they could have it have the second ccw, hammer, random parts for the ironclad. and if they put a missle launcher, 2x auto cannons, and m melta and a hbolter arm then you could have every option available and i believe that could fit on another sprew. But that would also cost $55 and probly loose forge world money.

Re: GW MODELS
It might cost FW a lil money but I wouldnt think it would hurt them overmuch. The extra detail they put into their stuff goes a loooong way for those with deep pockets. It is also a status sybol for a lot if they have FW stuff over GW stuff for many.
GW as a whole, I think would make more $ if they were to combine all 3 into one package with one extra sprue. Dreads would take 1/3 the shelf space and they woulsave in packaging and all too.
GW could make a lil extra cash by going into magnets. Hell, they could even sculpt in slots for use players to put them in that exactly match the size of the ones they sold. As it is now, I pay $2.00 for 6 with a variety of 3 sizes all being the same price. GW I am sure could sell the exact same magnets $4.00 for 6 if they say they are official GW magnets for use with GW models.

Re: GW MODELS
But then they would loose out on your buying another model like you are supposed to.
They don't want to sell you interchangeable kits. They want you to have a fully glued model for each version you wish to play.
Look at their bits policy. It was costing them too much to sell bits, compared to just "making" people buy a second model for the bit they wanted.
As for coffin vs Head. That is all personal taste. I LIKED the fact that up until recently the CSM and SM dreads were distinctly different. CSM Had heads all demonic and nasty looking, while the SM ones looked more "military" in my oppinnion.

Re: GW MODELS
I undestand what you mean. The heads are indeed a matter of taste.
I also understand what your saying about the parts. As a company, you are right. As a gamer I see the $ saved as being more money I would still spend anyways

Re: GW MODELS
The worst GW model I ever assembled was the old Dark Elves' dark pegasus. The two sides of the body fit so poorly I almost thought I had gotten parts to different models.

Re: GW MODELS
Now that you mention it. The original Griffen for Emperor Karl Franz was so bad, it was/is the 1st GW painting book. In the section for building the minis. It showed how and why you needed to pin models. And why you had to sand and fill the spots that didn't line up correctly.
Heh, I was called a Grognard.
