Yep. Same one. Hideous design. It's a walking coffin. Why does it need a head, other than to tell the enemy: SHOOT HERE!MagickalMemories wrote:Oh, God.YoungWolf777 wrote:The metal Venerable Dread model is quite possibly the ugliest model GW ever produced IMHO. Wow.
I couldn't disagree more.
I think it's one of the best Dreads I've ever seen... even from Forgeworld.
We ARE referring to the same model. right?
This one:
I like it FAR more than the new plastic... the look, that is. I prefer plastic over metal, otherwise.

Re: GW MODELS
Well. . .technically it IS a walking coffin. I like the ven dread design, although I'm not a fan of the GW one. The forgeworld one is purty, and I do like the look of the new plastic ven dread from GW. I just hate working with metals, and wouldn't want a thirty-pound model weighing down my case. Upside? If you're opponent is cheese-tastic, you can throw the ven dread in a sock and dreadsock him to death!YoungWolf777 wrote:Yep. Same one. Hideous design. It's a walking coffin. Re: GW MODELS

I have a couple of complaints about the pewter venerable dread.
1. Ridiculously goofy power fist. It needs a complete rebuild. Consider how cool Bjorn's was.
2. Weedy smoke stacks. Where's the beef?
3. The head looks like a space marine head. The FW dreads have a similar look, but this one is just not scaled right to the body. First gen dreads had a stylized face; that would be better for me on the ven's than gluing a beakie onto the front.
And really--a beakie is GW's idea of venerable?
I am always in the market for weird and wonderful GW oddbitz and ephemera. PM me if you have something old/weird/rare.

Re: GW MODELS
BAH. damn youngsters.
What was the worst to put together? Almost every old all metal GW mini from the 80's & 90's. Nothing lined up, and everything HAD to be drilled and pinned to even hope to hold it together. ALot of pieces were warped or missing metal from poor molding.
The empire war wagon. Basiclly a large cart. The 4 sides were warped, and didn't line up; to each other or the bottom.
The old metal land speeder. Nothing lined up.
Current bad models?
LotR Oliphant, Mumak. The elephant as a lot of detail. Unfortuantley, the 2 halves don't line up correctly. To fill the spaces I used model putty. Now I have to file and clean up every wrinkle on the model, to get the detail back, and the extra putty out. a major PIA, since the putty will and can come completely off/out.
ANything that has metal glue to plastic. It seems to ld less than metal to metal. I've tried every type of superglue. I'm currently using 2 types. Zapagap for simple things and Loctite super glue gel, for the big gaps and spots needing quicker hold.

We also had to walk 30 miles to the hobby shop in the snow up to our chests, uphill both ways.kturock wrote:BAH. damn youngsters...
Gotta agree with you though, A lot of the newer stuff is MUCH more modeler friendly then it was when us old timers started playing. especially with so many models now being made in plastic that were not before.

Worst I ever saw was the master of the ravenwing on a jet bike. Ended up sending it off to be painted just to avoid the trouble.

Pinned through the feet into the legs.
Even after all that I still get the occasional railgun breakage. Leaning really heavily on pinning those bad boys into his back with a long pin

Yeah, it seams the only way to get Broadsides from falling apart is to pin them.

Re: GW MODELS
Worst GW model to build for me was the metal steamtank from 2yrs ago or whatever.
Worst model ever was the warmachine deathjack... I did mine with over 30pins! Every finger(10), arms (3ea), spikes(alot), legs(4), ect (the rest!)... But at least I can sleep at night without thinking it would break during a game....

So if you designed a dread it would be a smooth box with two legs and thats it? Because anything extra isnt needed right?
Obviously the corpses head isnt actually in the dreadnoughts head. I mean if you were going to be stuck in a machine for the rest of your undead eternal life, would you want to be in one where the coffin is exposed ready to be opened like a tuna can, or one where your goodies were tucked away more internally? Would you like one that can only see forward and through something similar to your armpit, or one with a freely revolving head that gives you what looks like 90 degree vision horizontally and 45 vertically? Im just saying if I were a space marine and I got blown away I am going to be thanking the Emperor I did enough deeds to get my crispy arse into one of these.
I want my game to look cool. I will go asking "why?" or "how?" when I play something set in reality like a historical. But I have a feeling you were half joking or being sarcastic, seeing as you have a warmachine avatar...and I mean NONE of that game makes ANY sense am I right?

It's all about aesthetics with me. The head on the Ven Dread just looks stupid to me. *shrug*GMMStudios wrote:What?YoungWolf777 wrote: Yep. Same one. Hideous design. It's a walking coffin. Why does it need a head, other than to tell the enemy: SHOOT HERE!

WM did make sense to me at one point. I keep the avatar as it's how people recognize me. I won't touch Mk II with someone else's 10-foot pole though.
