Zombie Miniatures Wargame Rules
Anyone know of a set of rules for modern day zombie combat? Please try to avoid just listing the title--I'm really looking for some input with a little background in the game behind it. I know about the Mongoose line based on Battlefield Evolution already. If you've played it, your opinion/review would be helpful.
That said--if you've heard of a game, but never played it, you may as well post about it anyway.
Ideally, the game I'm looking for has a zombie horde on one side, and either a platoon sized element on the other, or even something as small as a single fireteam. Options for a milspec game AND for a cheerleader with a baseball bat style game would be awesome.
Links appreciated!!

Savage Worlds has a setting called Zombie Run. It's a pdf.
The Savage Worlds 'starter' rules are available as a free download.
http://www.peginc.com/Downloads/SWEX/TD06.pdf
The Explorers edition, 3rd printing, is just being released to stores. It's $9.95 for a softback book. Either as pdf or printed version.
The also have a deal; both copies for $14.99 until the end of January.
Here's a link to order 1 or the other or both. http://www.studio2publishing.com/shop/a ... 31&x=0&y=0
Zombie run pdf. $7.99

I'll see what I can find for downloads & links for you.

That's about it. For under $20 you can get instant zombie gratification.
Savagge Worlds is a all-incompasing, rules lite system. It doesn't have a rule for everything you do, like alot of systems. It has the important stuff, and allows you to set & play any genre in a matter of minutes. Just bring dice, a deck or 2 of playing cards [for inititive], paper and pen/pencil. Minis can be used but aren't required. Templates are a free download, or you can use similair ones from GW [if you already bougt them]
SW was created by Shane Lacy Hensley. He created the Deadlands and Hell on Earth RPG's. He also worked on & for lots of other games sytems in the 1980's. D&D, Torg, just to name a few. He was the lead content designer for City of Villians MMORPG.
Recently, he also wrote the 'The Army of Darkness' RPG, based on the movie. Another zombie setting.

Re: Zombie Miniatures Wargame Rules
You could also try the WarEngine rules set. It's designed to be a universal set of rules so you can use any miniature from any setting, genre, or manufacturer. This rules set was used in Demonblade's Shockforce and Gwar: Rumble in Antarctica games back in 1999. I've played this system and it's pretty easy and fun. Game play is fairly quick too. The only drawback is that it can sometimes take a while to create the stats for the figs you want to use. The rules are also a free download.

Re: Zombie Miniatures Wargame Rules
it's been a while but I think necromunda had scenarios for that sort of thing. Of course, thats not modern though it is it?
If your not worried about balence or "fairness" (lol, its zombie hordes, who cares about FAIR lol), it should be fairly easy to improvise any modern warfare game to suit your needs. Sit down with your fellow gamers and a variety of rule systems and hash out something for yourselves that you can all agree on.
Good luck.

Re: Zombie Miniatures Wargame Rules
Thank you, EVIL INC, for contributing a net 0 to this thread. Necromunda is not, in fact, a modern combat system. And I do intend to improvise a modern warfare game if necessary. As you'll see in my OP before you trolled over here to submit an essentially useless post:EVIL INC wrote:it's been a while but I think necromunda had scenarios for that sort of thing. I'm looking for suggestions of specific game titles, with some background provided by the person suggesting them.Anyone know of a set of rules for modern day zombie combat? Please try to avoid just listing the title--I'm really looking for some input with a little background in the game behind it.

I am not looking for someone like you to drop by and tell me that all I need to do is adapt a modern military game to a zombie setting. If you have a game in mind, provide that, with an explanation as to why it would be useful, and how you could see zombies fitting in.
That's the difference between productive suggestion and time-wasting trolling.

Re: Zombie Miniatures Wargame Rules
Okay, I'll preface this by saying that I've not played any of these, so this is more of an informative awareness post.
http://www.rebelminis.com/redops5.html Red Ops 5 is a modern zombie game put out by Rebel Minis. They do some great minis for use with the game. The game is based on the Two Hour Wargames rules.
http://www.ambushalleygames.com/ambushz.html Ambush Z is a modern zombie game based on the Ambush Alley rules.
http://www.rebelminis.com/15amzstbox.html for a nice box set from Rebel Minis
http://www.angelfire.com/az3/twohourwargames/atz.htm All Things Zombie is a modern zombie game put out by Two Hour Wargames. And again, a box set of minis put out by Rebel Minis http://www.rebelminis.com/allthzobedet.html
From what I've heard, Red Ops 5 and All Things Zombie lend themselves a bit more on the story / RP side of the game. Ambush Z is the opposite and more a simulation of what would happen.

Re: Zombie Miniatures Wargame Rules
Actually, I have not once ever trolled on this site.
I came into the thread to try to contribute and offer an olive branch of peace to you by trying to offer what little help or advice I could. I do not hold grudges and was hoping that you would see the post for what it was.
My apologies for trying to make nice and for not having the exact knowledge you were looking for. Good luck getting your game figured out. If you come across something good, post the game/alterations, I'm sure there are others who would be interested. I know that many of my students are super zombie-pocolypse crazy and would love to try it out. LOL, the first words one of the said to me was "whats your zombie-pocolypse plan?"
Nm, Thank you creeper, I will check those out and pass them on to my students., Sorrow, good luck and happy hunting. Dont forget your chainsaw.

My requirements:
To summarize in list form:s_o_r_r_o_w wrote:Anyone know of a set of rules for modern day zombie combat? Ideally, the game I'm looking for has a zombie horde on one side, and either a platoon sized element on the other, or even something as small as a single fireteam. Options for a milspec game AND for a cheerleader with a baseball bat style game would be awesome.
Links appreciated!!
1. Modern
2. Zombie
3. More than just a title
3a. Specially interested in more on Mongoose's game
4. Prefer zombie horde
4b. Prefer platoon sized element; Fireteam acceptable
4c. Prefer game that allows for milspec + civilians
5. Links
Your response:
Test "Necromunda":EVIL INC wrote:it's been a while but I think necromunda had scenarios for that sort of thing. Of course, thats not modern though it is it?

Good luck.
1. Not modern (fail)
2. Not zombie based, but there are zombies, maybe, somewhere (no score)
3. Just a title. No details. (fail)
3b. NA
4. No zombie horde (fail)
4b. No platoon (fail); Squad based, but you didn't eexplain that, and I already knew it (no score)
4c. Not milspec (fail); Not civilians (fail)
5. No links (fail)
Therefore, your post was useless and unproductive. It did not add anything to the discussion. It was, as I stated above, a net 0 contribution. And I'm being nice there, because I REALLY think that it actually detracted from the discussion.
Don't be sorry for "trying to make nice". Be sorry for trolling in here following the BTD discussion. Be sorry for not having the sense to say NOTHING rather than contribute a pointless and irrelevant post. Those are things you should be sorry for.EVIL INC wrote: My apologies for trying to make nice and for not having the exact knowledge you were looking for.
I'd love it, as would many here, if you would cut all the crap and just be a member. Contribute, disagree, whatever--but stop trolling. I'd accept your olive branch or whatever if I thought you were genuinely not being deliberately irritating.

Re: Zombie Miniatures Wargame Rules
UPDATE:
Has anyone tried Mongoose's "Apocalypse z" expansion for their "Battlefield Evolution" rules?
I'm familiar with BF: Evo, and wondering if that might solve my issue right there.
Still reviewing the other helpful suggestions.

Re: Zombie Miniatures Wargame Rules
Im interested in this thread. I always wanted to combine a Zombie RPG and have the option for miniatures combat to simulate the battles. Maybe smaller then 25-28mm would be better to play with large numbers.(zombie hordes)
Unrelated, but I just picked up the zombie baordgame "Last Night on Earth". But i havent played yet.
I hope you find something! (cuz then I can check it out!) I LOVE all things Zombie.
