UK/USA divide

Post by nick1983 »

Hi,
I'm from the UK, and shipping models to USA is pretty expensive, is there a UK version of the site (or equivalent) or a way to filter by country? Even if people bothered putting locations, that would help...
I appreciate this is a US site primarily for US collectors but there are lots of us in the UK...

Well, no... There's no special UK version of the site. For that matter, there's no special US version, either.
You see, though the majority of us here are in North America (and most of them in the US), it was set up for people who are of a trading mindset to ... well, trade.
We have people from all over. UK, US, Canada, Aussies, There's a singapore someplace, the Netherlands... it goes on.

I agree that is is marvelous for people to put locations in their profile. It makes trading easier.

I think, though, that you do Adam a disservice when you say that you understand that this site is primarily for US traders. It simply isn't true (and it feeds into the misthoughts of those people who make certain assumptions about Americans).

Not a bash. Just a thought.

Eric

P.S. Welcome to the site.

Nah, it's not a disservice, we are 99%+ from North America it seems. And I'm gonna start making people fill out their frigging location properly... darnit.

Anyways, to the point, there was a Bartertown-UK, it has since folded ( or at least no one goes there anymore ). How about if I set up a section and call it "No Yanks Allowed" ? Will that work?

Thanks,

I'd love to see the location a mandatory entry from a drop-down menu or something. I don't have anything against Canadians or Europeans, it's just not worth the time trying to trade with them unless the circumstances are extraordinary. I like to be able to complete a deal and have the minis in a week. Canadain mail and US mail are like water and vinegar for some reason so I hate to open communications and start talking trade only to find out 3 steps later their location is up north.

Hi, Thanks Adam, a UK/rest of world forum would make it alot easier.
Cheers for the response,
PS Maybe 'no yanks allowed' not the best title... human curiousity dictates it would attract more US folk than not... I'd certainly visit a forum that said 'no brits'.

The problem with us yanks is that if you tell us not to do something we are probably going to do it. Also giving the section name no yanks allowed or UK only will definately attract more of us there.

~~~I'd hate to see separate listings for different countries...I know we're just talking US & UK now, but what about when Canadians or Aussies start asking for the same thing!?!
I think that if people would just fill out the location part of their profiles with the real answer, it would give us a decent way to sort ads.
I know that I have traded with people from all over the world, including Oz, New Zealand, Romania, Slevokia, the UK, France, & others. Sure, prices caan be a challenge, & shipping may not always be optimal...but I have had some great deals with people outside the US.
Hopefully everyone can cooperate with Trademaster Adam & we can make sorting ads by location a useful tool while still keeping all the trades together.
Out of curiosity, did something bad happen to one of your Canada/Overseas trades?
I've traded almost exclusively with U.S citizens, and have had no problems with unreasonable delays, customs etc.
I really think that having a mandatory 'Fill in your location to trade' would really help anyone curious about dealing with individuals from 'parts unknown' :)
