Wrong to be upset about this trade?

Post by Ruskin »

I find myself a little miffed over a current trade im going through. I sent payment to a trader with good rep on the 24th of July for some 40k stuff. Once the deal was finalised I sent my payment the same day and shot the person a PM saying so. I didnt get a response back for about 5-7 days so I pm'd again and got "yea your stuff got sent" as a response, nothing more. Thursday or Friday of last week I sent another email saying, hey, havent seen anything yet (local trader, only like 30 minutes actual driving distance from me) so I was wondering what was up. Got a response back about some error in shipping and me needing to send my address again. I sent the address but then thought about it afterwards.

I just sent the person another pm saying if you still havent sent my stuff (which he hasnt, my pm with the address is sitting in my outbox still) can you just refund my money. Just wondering what others thoughts are on this?

Just the other day I sent something to someone from Canada to the US and he received it in 3 days, customs and all. Heck, if my stuff was just stuck in transit id be ok with it, but this traders lack of updates about my package, me needing to chase him, and the bogus needing my address again has me concearned that he just took my money and doesnt care when I get my stuff. Im not saying hes dishonest, but 2+ weeks to even get something in the mail is a bit rude, seeing as how I paid money for the items.

your thoughts?

Agreed, you should be a little miffed. However, playing Devil's Advocate here, some people are just really lax about updating or reading PMs (when I have a lot going on trading-wise, I'm pretty attentive, when it's only 1, I am a little slow. Sorry, just speaking the truth on that), and some people aren't. Maybe he's got something going on? I mean real life bad stuff.

However, as long as it has been going on, you are more than likely right in being miffed. Asking for a refund is well within your rights if it hasn't been shipped.
Lower rating? I ask that you ship first. Also, if I offer a stupidly good deal and you try to negotiate even lower...don't call it bad communication that you didn't get a reply. I deleted the message.

How good is his "good rep."
Stan said a lot. Sometimes, people just get bogged down with real life.
Now, I'm not saying that as any sort of defense for the guy, and I'm not trying to say what he's done is acceptable. In fact, if he has a good rating and sees this -and really IS a good trader- he won't get ticked and will readily admit his error.

I suggest giving him anothre day or 2 to resolve this himself, then filing a Paypal dispute.
If you decide on a deal after filing the dispute, do NOT cancel the dispute until after you receive whatever you are supposed to. Once you cancel a dispute, it cannot be reopened.

His rep is 121. He has a few neutral ref's but no bad's. I agree that people get busy, and have real life issues to deal with, I can relate. I just dont like it when my money was accepted asap, but the same service wasnt returned in getting me my items.

Thanks for the tip with paypal Eric, I'll keep that in mind.

It's 2 and a half weeks, so yeah, he should have given you a customs form number by now.

Don't think so.. looks to me that this is an "inter-canada" trade.. so no customs. Although from what I hear from Norseman, intercanadian post is as bad as outside of canada mail ...

I don't know if this is true, but we in the USPS heard at one time, over 10 years ago, that Canada Post used taxi drivers to deliver mail between fares. There was either contract negotiations or just a test project on cost-reductions.

Maybe somebody who actually lives or lived there at the time might know. I don't recall what city or provience it was.

OK guys, seriously, Taxi Drivers do not deliver the mail in Canada. This is not the land of privatization. It's the land of socialism, remember? :P

An Express Post package in Canada should take a week, tops. It's fast, it's pretty cheap, and it comes with tracking numbers etc. No package full of miniatures should be sent regular post.

Mail inside Canada is extremely reliable. We have a much smaller population than the US, so less volume, and a well paid public employee union pushing my taxes up but keeping the service professional.

If you haven't heard from the guy in like 24 hours, I would consider a BTR.

I would do a BTR now. I wouldn't wait. You have waited long enough. Send him a PM informing him you are doing a BTR. You don't have to, but it is nice to give them a FYI.

Remember, a BTR is not about reporting possible scammers (although it can be used for that), but about reporting a BAD TRADING EXPERIENCE.

Good point.
Many people forget that.

I'm thinking Paypal dispute & BTR.

BTW, on a PayPal dispute, do NOT drop it until you have your money or models. Once you drop a dispute, it cannot be reactivated.

[devil's advocate]

If he sent it standard ground. It COULD take 12 business days.

Note this is Business days. So that is three weeks.

Local = 3 days
Provincial = up to 5 days
National = up to 12 days

If the guy thinks he has done everything on bartertown, he may not be checking it?

He may be on vacation?
[/devil's advocate]

Check if he has been online at all on his profile. Or if he is just not reading your messages.

He could be being a goof or he could actually have a good excuse.

Canada Post is extremely efficient. They do not lose stuff. Well not often.... I have been trading for years and the only times i didn't receive something was when I thought the person didn't really send it.

I personally would pull the payment back if you paid with Paypal.

So an update:

I received a response back from the person saying that he had just got the message and unfortunately already had sent the models that morning. Strange considering he had to check his pm's to get my address that he had misplaced and at the time of my sending my unhappy pm both messages were unread. He also mentioned in that same pm that he had left me a good trader rating, which also strangely hasn't show up yet after 4 days?

So the package arrives today, the 14th. The date stamp on the front of the package claims it was posted on the 13th of Aug... 3 days after he claims to have sent it.

Yea, those are his username initials. Sounds like the exact same person from what you've gone through.

I'm thinking about that now. I read his neutral ratings and didnt think much of it. Just a few minor issues. In hindsight, if we all had left a report that was a little sterner more people could be spared the aggravations. Guess I'll have to head on over to that forum.

Thanks all for your input.
