Another bad deal with the_trader?

Post by arundel »

Hey Bartertown,

Anyone else having trouble communicating with this guy?

I made the foolish gesture of sending half of a $260 buy from him before he shipped, he had no feedback at that point.

So I have not heard from him since the 25 of November and his story doesn't seem to add up.

At this point I have initiated a Paypal complaint, but rumor is it won't help.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

PM script below....

Hey,

I just saw your post about the tank company, do you still have them? i think we could make a bigger trade and make it worth your while:
I'd pay your asking price for these...
1 GW baneblade £45 = $67.50
3 basalisks £15 each = $67.50
6 sentinals £5 each =$45.00
14 Squigs $25.00

I pay you: $205 plus $5.00 shipping for $210, $105 today, $105 on delivery?

If you could come down on the Leman Russes a bit, I'd buy them as well.

What do you think?

Hi,

Do you have a tracking number?

You had said you would send them on the 13th. I must say I'm a bit nervous about this deal. No offense to you, but I did take a chance and send money to someone with a low rating.

Please make me feel better by telling me a tracking number and how you sent it.

Thanks,

Randy

Joe,

Still have not heard from you and you have now been on Bartertown twice since I sent you the last email. I'm going to notify Paypal, and be prepared to alert the Bartertown community that you are non responsive and list as a bad trader.

I'll wait until Sunday, If I see you have logged in and not responded I move ahead with my actions.

Joe,

How can it be here by now? You said you just shipped it on Thursday. Your computer has worked well enough to read each email I sent. I can check when the last time you logged into this site was. Your story does not make sense.

I can see what hour and what day you were here. If you can log in, you can respond to emails. I want to trust you, but this seems like a scam at this point.

My gut tells me to cut and run. I'll be filing a Paypal complaint today, and will post a bad trader entry for you if I don't see a shipping receipt, you can email it to me after scanning it, or a delivery confirmation number for tracking purposes.

I have 20 more days to file the paypal loss, and even though it is international, it can still be considered mail fraud.
So:

Did you ship it Thursday or last week?
How did you ship it?
What is the delivery confirmation number?
Where is the scanned receipt?

I'll expect an email at: randy.short@XXXX.XXX

shortly after your next log in to this site.

Okay,

Two days later..... Nothing.

I'm initiating the Paypal action.

Sorry you are not sleeping well, I don't sleep well but I manage to function even with PTSD from the war.
Sorry about your grandfather as well. But you have had my money for 13 days and I have not gotten a consistent story from you you.

I paid on the 12th of November. You said you would ship the next morning. The 13th. I heard nothing from you for a week, then I inquire and you said that you shipped on Thursday, 20 NOV, I inquire on the 23rd to see if you shipped and you state they should have been here by now. Three days? You had said 1-2 weeks. You have ignored my requests for shipping details.

If I have no proof of them shipping by Saturday, 29 NOV i will report you to Bartertown.

You should be able to get the info in four days, it is a reasonable request.

that what it said on the recipt

Well that was ONE of my questions....

What method did you use?
What was the ACTUAL ship date?
What is your address and phone number?

The Paypal report will stand as it is. I f i don't receive the package by 10 DEC at the latest, I will escalate the claim.

I know you are new to this site, you need to come up to speed about what is expected from a seller here. I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you have not made it easy.

Some scammers will behave like this, stringing a trader along until it is too late to file a claim with Paypal. I do not wish to be burned, so I needed to Cover my butt.

May I ask how old are you?

You can still get a positive reference, you just need to communicate better.
That tracking number doesn't do any good without me knowing who shipped it, UK Overseas post? there should be a website I can track that from, probably listed on your receipt.

I'm going to cross post this to two threads because it affects you both - but it would seem that he's 'sold' two of you the same tanks...

viewtopic.php?f=34&t=76407
viewtopic.php?f=34&t=76493

Some different stuff too, but I'm sure he doesn't have enough tanks for both of you (and curiously a lot of the same numbers come up - 3 Basilisks, 1 BaneBlade, etc).

Im sure this guy is a fraud. Im also pretty sure he is a minor.(under18) Its just a hunch.

He obviously had this planned a bit. Join Bartertown, offer a bunch of high-price items (titans, baneblades, etc.),get the cash -preferably from out-of country people, split Bartertown.

First- file a BTR. Second- file with Paypal. Third- find out about this guy, get a phone #, contact his Mum & Dad. Fourth- file criminal charges.

Sorry to say I think I'm another 'victim'. Trusting soul that I am I believed his statement that he shipped on 20th of November, and will give him to the end of tomorrow to make good or the goods to arrive. I'm in for $100; won't make or break me, and I figure people pay consultants a lot more to learn the do's and don'ts of a business/trading environment. But, to keep BTown functioning and BTowners safer I'll do the BTR etc. once my internal deadline runs down.

Hello all:

Due to the sheer number of BTR and Deadbeat / Backout threads (8, as of this posting), I have compiled an index in the Hall of Shame:

the_trader in The Hall of Shame

When you see it all at once, it's like The Drop Zone or Ticknor all over again...

(oh, yeah, I can cut-n-paste, too..)
