Incomplete sale: armymenarecool

Post by javelin98 »

I hate having to post something like this here, but I haven't been able to make any progress with the seller.

Background:
Seller's name: Patricia Senter
Bartertown handle: armymenarecool (memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=13855)
Purchase item: Six 15mm hovertanks from Combat Wombat, sold to me for $22 through PayPal

Chronology:

Sat Aug 23, 2008: Seller posts an ad on the "Miscellaneous - Futuristic" board titled "FS: Misc. Starship Troopers, 15mm sf vehicles". I PM'ed the seller asking about the hovertanks and if there were any pics:
javelin98 wrote:What are the 15mm hovertanks like? Do you have any pics you could share?
Sun Aug 24, 2008: Seller responds by PM that she would send pics to my private email address.
armymenarecool wrote:They are hovertanks, I can send some pics if you want to give me your email addy.
Thanks!

Thanks,

Mon Aug 25, 2008: Seller sent this email, along with a single pic:

I can ship them first class for 3.00, they don't weigh too much, lol! I
also have 2 more of the one that looks like it has small "wings" with
missile launcher tops and 2 of the other ones with different turrets, rocket
launcher and cannon. If you want those too the total will be 18.00 plus 4.00,
otherwise the total for the first 3 is 9.00+3.00 shipping. My paypal addy is the

On or about Wed Sep 10, 2008: Seller sent me an email saying she had been delayed in getting the package to the post office. I replied saying thanks for the update. Unfortunately, neither email is in my inbox or Sent Items, so I can't reproduce them here.

Wed Sep 18, 2008: I sent the seller an email (which, again, isn't in my Sent Items) and a PM asking about the status of the package; this message is still in my outbox awaiting pickup as of this posting:

Hi, Pat. I'm concerned that I haven't received my package and haven't heard from you despite having sent two messages last week. Can you please update me on the situation? If I haven't heard from you by Friday, I'm afraid I'll have to file a dispute with Paypal in order to keep my options open.

I paid for the purchase on 8/30. Then I heard from the seller in the middle of September that she had been delayed in sending the package, which didn't bother me. But now she has not responded to the last four emails/PMs I've sent, and I've begun to be worried. I'll gladly drop this dispute if the package shows up, if I can be given a tracking number showing that it is on its way, or if I receive a refund.
So, that's the saga of this sale. Ms. Senter has my $22, which I'm hoping I can reclaim through a PayPal dispute, which I am planning on raising to a claim on October 10. I'd rather have the models, all things considered. I note by looking at her profile that she hasn't visited the site since September 11, so I'm wondering if something may have happened to her. Regardless, I want some kind of resolution.

And word to the wise: make sure your email or webmail is set to automatically save emails you send to the Sent Items folder. I regret that I didn't find out mine wasn't doing so until after this became an issue.

Full headers on the PM's are necessary for a complaint amigo.

That said, good luck with getting your stuffs or your moneys.

Dammit, Crestion!
You totally stole my thunder.

Javelin, from what I can see, you definitely have a qualified BTR on your hands.
That being said, you still have to post COMPLETE PM's. They should include the "Subject, "Date," To," and "From" lines.
If you encase eact PM in it's own quote box (again) and list them chronologically (again), that would be wonderful.

Thanks!

Eric

nope.. can't edit posts in the BTR forums..

you will have to list em all again..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

The easiest way will be to quote yourself, and add the headers ;)

I say don't wait, File NOW.
The longer you wait, the lower your chances of getting your $$ back are.

If it works out, you can always drop your claim.

Agreed 110%. If it turns out that she's had big time issues, you can re do the trade and what not.

12 September, isn't that around the time that Ike nuked the gulf coast? Just a thought, hoping for our amigo here.

Shoot, I hadn't even thought of that. I believe she lives in Chicago, but you never know. She might have been down visiting inlaws or something.

Anyhoo, I'll go ahead and escalate to a claim now, and hopefully get this resolved one way or the other. Thanks for everyone's input!

Well, even if she WAS in the middle of it, you can always pay her back later.
You need to protect yourself and being nice and waiting TOO long can screw you in the end.

Good call.

Well, I got something back from Paypal, at least:
Paypal wrote:We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your
favor.

We were able to recover $8.23 USD and this amount has been credited to you.
Please allow five business days for this adjustment to be posted.

If you are due any additional funds, we will make our best effort to
recover the balance from the seller.

If the seller's account has insufficient funds to complete the refund owed
to you, please be assured that we will take appropriate action against the
seller's account, which may include limitation of the seller's account
privileges.
Etc., etc. Anyhoo, hopefully I'll get more back from this, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm sad, as I don't have the tanks and I'm still out roughly $16. I suppose from now on I'll have to ask people with no feedback to send first.

Thanks for everyone's support!

Oooohhh....wow. They are going to limit their account privledges. That will show them! LMAO. Thats why I dont use Paypal. They try & give you a (false) sense of security. What real protection do they give for all those fees?? (little if any)
