IMs for trading?
~~~Rather than hijack the email or PM thread, I thought I'd open a new one for this thought:
I have in the past used my msn or yahoo messenger to help speed up some negotiations here on B-town, & it was pretty effective, especially when you archive all your IM conversations.
How do the rest of you feel about using IMs to speed trading?
I've done the same but like you I use GIAM on my work pc and used to used Trillian at home till I switched to GAIM as well to use all 4 of chat programs (AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, MSN, and our work Jabber client) in one program. Giam creates log files for all chats by default and that has helped at times as well.
I don't have an issue with it. I feel its' almost the same risk at PM's or Email's, just the communcation is quicker.
I've used Gmail chat to nail down the specifics of the trade, as well as Bartertown Chat. While I'm perfectly willing to work out a trade that way, I still send an email listing the specifics of the agreed-upon trade. That way both sides have something they can refer back to later.
Still, there's definately a lot of advantages to using an IM or chat program - if nothing else, it's usually a LOT faster than sending 25 emails back and forth.
~~~most definitley have to send an email with ethe final details so that both parties have a reference to look at...but glad to hear that using chat/IMs for trade negotiations is common.
I know that I sped up several trades PLUS got better deals because we could communicate in real time so we actually both started rattling off other things that we had for trade & made for some more significant deals.

IIRC, an IM thread can't track ISP's.
I HATE IMing in general, myself. I don't like "CHATting," either. I would never take part in either.

Give me a sense of humor Lord. Give me the grace to see a joke.
To get some humor out of life and pass it on to other folk.
I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

Want my help with a BTR or backout? All messages sent/posted should be in CHRONOLOGICAL order. Otherwise, I just won't read it.

I don't suck at lying.You really shouldn't use chat programs to conduct trades. There are no logs to save incase something goes bad. And MM, you suck at lying. I mean... 1200 posts? Ohhhhkay...
In fact, I'm quite good at it.
I mean you'd never suspect that... err... nevermind...
It's not 1200 posts... yet...
You caught me, though. I tapped the database, hacked my way into that one piece, and upped it.... Because, you know, I'm so L337.
BTW, what the heck does THAT (
I love that emoticon!
I like this one, too!
