Could i have my account deleted?

Is there any possible way i could have my account deleted off this site?

11 years and well could i please get deleted off and everything erased of me and my trade references?

if this could happen i would appreiate this very much...

i will complete my last trades and i thank everyone for the great 11 + years of bartertown and all the great trades and people from here

That depends entirely on why you want it gone.

Have you broken a rule and been contacted by a moderator about it?

Do you feel you are above the regulations of this website, even though you agreed to abide by them when you created your account here?

Does your complaint contain factually incorrect information used in an attempt to draw attention to and create sympathy for whatever plight you imagine yourself in?

If the answer to all three questions is "yes" then I will be happy to remove your account and all references to you in our systems. I am certain that all the people you've left feedback for will be THRILLED to have your references removed from their ratings. If your feedback rating is any indicator, at least 240 people will be damaged by your action. You purport to be such a great Bartertowner, yet you don't seem to care about your fellows...
By my count, you've already got two "yes" answers there: You violated rule #12 and were contacted by a moderator. Bartertown has been in operation for about nine years, not the 11+ you claim (this according to Trademaster Adam's site history); your appeals to popularity and pity are logically fallacious and hold no merit in this context.

If, on the other hand, any of these questions are answered with a "no" then I suggest you suck it up and deal. I daresay everyone else on this site - the moderators included - have better things to do than deal with your temper tantrum.

Since you decided to post this publically, I await your reply in this thread. Your options are very simple and laid out above. Either "Yes" to all three questions or "No" to whichever you choose along with the reasoning thereof. Be advised that any email or PM you send me regarding this matter will be made public.

since this is made public and not in a trade section i hope i am not breaking any rules by replying to this lin. but would like to offer my opinion.

Troll needs to suck it up for whatever reason it is. instead of just deleting an account. like you said lin there are quite a few others affected by that as well and ought to have thier opinions. which like you said is not worth the work.

i have seen the screen name on here for a long time. but IIRC werent there some problems with this screen name on the old site? i could be wrong but i dont think so.

and if its because there were some trade problems and wants to get out from under it by deleting history, then even more of a reason, no.

you get in trouble and go to jail you have a rap sheet. your credit goes bad it follows you as well.

Some people do because of bad trades they've made. Sometimes the other party doesn't follow up because it isn't worth the headache and are willing to chalk it up as experience. I think asking to have an account deleted in selfish and not thoughful of others work and honesty. There a lot fo great peeps on here and I would hate to see them affected by your request. Just my comment. Thanks THEFAN

Oh sure, it's open for public comment. No rules broken whatsoever.

The background, since I've gotten a number of requests and queries:

Apparently Troll was contacted by a moderator regarding a violation of rule #12 - that's too many ads in a forum (more than one posted per week). Troll decided to make a giant hullabaloo about it instead of removing or consolidating his ads.

It wasn't even a suspension - just a notification. Then we get this dramarama...and no response from Troll whatsoever.

The really suprising thing is that this is coming from someone with so much feedback. If you've got that much feedback - and been here that long - then you should know the rules and be used to abiding by them. I mean hell, I've been here maybe 5 months now and I fully expect that if I break one of the rules, Lir, or Morlock or someone will come down on me for it and take whatever action is appropriate. In fact, I've gotten a PM'd reprimand/warning for threadjacking (for telling someone they were multiple posting, but it still counts.). So new as I am, I realize the rules apply to me. I don't hold it against Lir (who was the one that warned me), and I don't feel Bartertown is a bad place - I earned what I got.

He's (supposedly) been here umpteen years longer than I have, and you'd sure as hell think he'd know better. Either that or his attitude was "I've been here forever, so I don't have to follow the rules. And if you make me follow the rules, I'll throw a tantrum then take my ball and go home."

Sorry to see someone go that has such good feedback, but if thats the attitude I'm definately not sorry to see that go - Good Riddance! Beat him with a ruttin chain on the way out. (I'm sure Jayne would volunteer!)

I think this is exactly this issue at hand here. It was as if he was expecting us to cater to him since he had been here so long.

In any event, I don't think he wants to be here anymore, so let's leave it at that. This has gone on long enough.

according to his trade refs he hasnt been here much longer than some of the rest of us.

and thats only since '99 not the how many years he said, 11 years? according to trade refs anyways.

I'm not sure why Troll wants to leave or if he is even aware what cancelling his account will do to all the references he has left. Not everyone is savvy in such matters. (finger pointing at me!)

I could not find the large body of posts he was supposed to have made, (spamming) but I did find many references as to what a great trader he was. His post asking to be removed is actually rather polite, he would like his last posts to be on friendly terms, I don't have a problem with that. Most likely he does not wish to be contacted or associated here any more, and is his right I would think. Its too bad, his record speaks highly.

Now, I don't have the inside information that the mod's have, so I don't know the PM's sent him etc. But can't we just accept what he's saying at face value? Is there a way to remove his account without affecting the references he left for others. Change a password, remove his personal information from his profile etc?

As to how long he's been here, cut a break people. Anything over 3 years in mind gets a little hazy, (Ummm how long have I known my wife anyway...)

I would hope when it come time for me to go my separate way that I'd get the benefit of the doubt at least.

If he wants to leave he can just go....no need to delete the account. It's not like there are membership fees or anything. It's not like your account contains valuable personal information either. The request is thoughtless and stupid. If the guy has a problem, just leave.

yea the refs are all beside his name, but him being removed with all traces gone, does nothing but screw everyone that he has traded with if all refs were to be gone.

rather polite? naa, looking for attention is all. if he dont want to be contacted all he has to do is change his email address. and edit his profile by removing any personal info he may have in there.

the time here is figured by other people by just checking the date of ones first trade reference listed since the join dates ar no longer able to be used since the site was changed from .org to .com. and no special treatment for anyone here just because they have been here a long time .

none needed, when one leaves here on good terms they just leave.
not try to cause a stink because they have been notified that they broke the rules that everyone else has to follow.

one of the issues was due to the deleting of the account is that it could cause alot of work for some people and what about the 61 people that he has traded with? if the account/history were to be completely deleted completely then all of those peoples ratings would have to drop as well. i am not one of them but, i wouldnt want it to happen to me.

Ok, no worries.

I just generally try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Like I said, I'm not a mod so probably don't know the entire story.

Hope this works out. Its too bad this went sour.
