Otherwise a big thanks to James4177 for the imperial robots deal... 2 more i got them all.
on the news side, fellow Rt lovers might want to check Feepay this week for some RT goodness: 1 LR on sprue with box, 1 rhino with box, 4 robots crusader, still not decided if i'm gonna bid on the RT raider...that would mean to start collecting LR on sprue.... which way past the point of no return
another question, tricky this one: is the metal left arm for the bike rider in the vincent black shadow blister is the same as the plastic arm with the hand upside down or the elbow angle is different? i'm sure s_o_r_r_o_w can answer that
Anyone enjoying Regular Ordinary Sweedish meal time recently? so 'good for you'

I could, but I'm in Ottawa and away from my figs. IIRC, the arms are pretty close, but you miss out on the ORIGINAL sculpted Chapter shoulder pads if you go with the plastic arms.jul wrote: another question, tricky this one: is the metal left arm for the bike rider in the vincent black shadow blister is the same as the plastic arm with the hand upside down or the elbow angle is different? i'm sure s_o_r_r_o_w can answer that

Re: Am I that old....
hi all,
quite a month lately at the job and kids being sick put on hold the gaming side. as i do not have the time often to paint, it is not close to zero... anyway, i managed to get a copy of the 1991 to 1994 catalogues, i did own part 1 and 2 previously, so now i have two of the blue and red ones. The cool part was that the catalogues were coming with the prices list from 1994....12.99 GBP for a Land raider...i remember my local store back in France selling those for 250 FF (around 50$ at that time...) it made me remenber why it was so cool to make the trip to London and get the minis there, so much cheaper.
Beside that, a trip to 2nd edition when i used to play Eldars, over the time i tried hard to put together an new version of my old army, this might be the time to build one for the fun. here's a rough draft of what could the army:
2 farseers
3x6 fire dragons in wave serpents
2x10 dire avengers in wave serpents
2x6 jetbikes
3x5 dark reapers
comments welcome...
Cheers

Re: Am I that old....
Forget the eldars....got the spiky hitch recently, maybe that's expalining the lack of update on the RT side...
the only thing that went well is my recent acquisition of this beauty...

making my second RT land raider on sprues in my collection, i'll be on the hunt for more certainly.
on the other projects i extended my elysian army with 2 more vendettas, 1 sentinel, 2 tauros venators, 1 mortar squad and 2 more infantry squads, next step is to shot an order to Jeff for more Dragonforge goodness.
Still undecided if i do the move to the GD Chicago, paying for the airplan will dangerously cut the money for the day's purchases, and if i intend to enter the golden deamon, i'm not sure i'll have enough time to produce something worth of the first cut, knowing that Chicago is generally at a higher level.... will be a last minute decsion for sure depending on the friends making the move there.
For the Spiky parts, my first purchase of recent GW kits in a while and i'm quite impressed by the quality of the kits besdie few issues. one of the raider was missing the raider accessories sprue, the kabalytes warriors had the bases miscasted...and i'm not talking about the finecast models which were not that good overall. furthermore, 2 advices i can give on Finecast is:
1. get the metal versions if available
2. open the finecast box right in the store where you purchased it, chances it'll have to be replaced as the number of miscasts and bad parts is quite impressive.
i worked a little bit on an army list for the DE i'm gonna play test next month in local tourney. so far

comments welcome on that one. i try to offer an army list that is fun to play with and against, i could go netlisting and venoms spamming but i know i'll get bored quickly.
i'm planning on doing a test model paint for the DE this week, more on that later
in the meantime, keep RT alive!

I'm surprised more hardcore gamers do not use the OOP Rhinos and Land Raiders in their armies. They are smaller and could make better use of the true LOS rules.

Re: Am I that old....
IMO, your Raiders should ditch the Night Shields for FlickerFields. the 5+ Invulnerable save is FAR more valuable to them than the -6" range.
Also, your Ravagers should have, at least, FF's and I'm starting to lean towards thinking they should always have FF's AND Night Shields.
The rest of the list isn't really my style, so I don't really have any comments on it.
I'm sincere about the FF changes, though.

Re: Am I that old....
@Ironhide: issue with that is, unless the army is painted to a higher standard, it won't get many points on the painting side. Then if you mix also old vehicules and newer models, the reason intended becomes clear that you want to take advantage of Los rules
@MM: The raiders are here to deliver and bullet magnet, the content is more important. I do not want to put too much points on them. My idea was that if i do not have the first turn i can always deploy far away enough and not being targeted (the unit shooting at you and out of range cannot shot at any other units for the turn).
i agree for the Ravager, although a good screen would give it a 4++ for free, that's why i'm still so unsure about FF.
i guess i'll see once i've played with them...
Thanks

FF are the same point cost as NS's, though. That is one of the things that makes them better.jul wrote:@Ironhide: issue with that is, unless the army is painted to a higher standard, it won't get many points on the painting side. What you'll find is that, really, NS's only help you with Bolters and 24" range weapons. If you're using the Raiders as a delivery system, they're best off as close to the front as you can safely get them. Any Strength that can take them out easily (s6 or better) will see a TON of weapons with that range. Even Heavy Bolters will give you a hard time, due to their RoF.
A NS won't do anything against a Missile Launcher, Lascannon or (often) a Plasma cannon on deployment. From one side of the table to the other is 48" and, typically, you're going to have all of those weapons between 30 and 42 inches away from you. So, they'll all be in range. Those that hit and glance/pen will be affected by the FF no matter what, due to the fact that it's an Invulnerable save. It's even good against HtH assaults.
Just my thoughts. After playing around a few times, I suspect you'll come to agree. Took me a LOT of losses to decide that I feel FF/NS is required kit on all Ravagers. So, I understand the process. : )

Re: Am I that old....
i had the same happening to me with my elysian army...anyway, i do not like to show off or being seen as an elitist or else. i always take the time to explain why i use those models, where they come from, kind of a tribute to the good old days. Only once i had to tell someone to calm down, he wasn't even a staffer...Gaijin18 wrote: On a random note,,when using old models I love gettin told, hey you cant use that! its not a GW model.......".kid do you even save yet?"????
As i said in the first post, i love those models for the memories they bring back to me, when i was just a kid, saving any pennies i could to go get my monthly model and hanging in the store wtaching the big guys playing with full armies when the only thing i had was a squad or two badly drybrushed...
For the old vehicules, they are so a strong icon of GW history, the land raider and the ork battle wagon (and its old rules) are something everybody will recognize and know what that are
@MM: i'm still playing with the codex between models assembly, i put a coven of pain list as well based on massive utilisation of WWP. I see the whole thing as 3 different armies in one book that can potentially works better alone than ultra specialized eldar lists, next trial will be a wych lists, and then combine all 3 into a 6000 pts army!!!!!
Cheers

Re: Am I that old....
Back in business....
For the news: Elysian Out, FW SM in a pre-heresy style in the works. just need to decide which legion.
The things that are sure:
1 captain
mk2 armour as standard
mk3 for vets
land raiders only, no rhino based vehicule
drop pod dread
Rule wise i got the choicce between IA 10, C:SM or the beautiful expansion put together by the nice people of Tempus Fugitives.
more to come soon

Re: Am I that old....
Scored another mk1 Land raider over Feepay...
this one is half assembled, but original box and decal sheets is included, That allows me to have 2 mk1 assembled and 2 complete in box...
next step, get a complete box of RTB05 sets....
Started yesterday to clean all the marines parts to do build the HQ, 5 vets, 10 Tacts, 5 assaults, probably going to shoot an order to FW by the end of the month to complete with another 5 assaults and 5 vets.

Re: Am I that old....
Hi all
watched the new FW video about the new Land raiders and rhinos, gave me the idea of building a Spartan....here's the start:

Probably be playing with that in the free time over Xmas. beside started to put together some marines lately

Started with the idea of getting a pre-heresy Iron Hands army, might end up in something else, the only thing i'm sure is that they'll be heavily weathered....
I need to think about an army list now, so far:
1 Captain
20 Tacticals
10 Veterans
5 Assault
2 rhinos
2 vindicators
2 drop pods
1 Lucius drop pod
2 land speeders
1 fellblade
1 contemptor
future purchase will include:
2 land raiders
5 Assault
1 contemptor
and some characters like a techmarine.
thinling about termies, but 5 Tiberios for an unit with a lot of work behind scares me a bit
Cheers
