Next up on this month's completed projects is the Orc Minigunner, or the "Orkinator" as I refer to him. Like Baron G, he was printed in a flurry of activity 2.5 years ago and before I tuned for better detail and smaller layer heights. As such, some of the layer lines are painfully visible, but I did my best with them. Painting a model in head to toe black leather was a bit of a challenge, but I found a happy medium. The satisfaction of clearing a long-overdue project from the painting desk makes up for all of it.

Third project completed this month: "Da Macheen". Mr.Modulork 6 month loyalty reward. Since all of my Orks are Rokkas, they'll be dressed as '80s metalheads. If we didn't wear leather, it was denim, hence the jorts. :D

Maybe he'll bring that fashion back. If he does, it'd be a far worse contribution to the universe at large than a Waaaagh.

Jorts.

Final completion for May, and the one I'm the most proud of. While I love Mr. Modulork's Rokk Starr, the speakers on the shoulders were a bit too much for my taste. So I set about making my own speaker squigs. (This was well before GW's corny looking "Goff Rocker" fig was released.) The only problem I had was how to connect his amp to the speakers. Why not "Blootoof"? (Patent pending. :P ) A few bits later and the idea made sense. He only waited close to 3 years for paint.

I'm participating in the Call to Arms 2025 event on the Bolter & Chainsword forum. 90 days to paint as many models as you can. You must vow prior to painting and each model earns points for your faction/house. Orks fall under Xenos, which never wins, but it's fun motivation nonetheless.

My first vow is:
20 Gretchin w/ 2 Runtherders
10 Ork Boyz
1 Ork Warboss
1 Attack Squig

34 models worth 38 points. I can make 2 more vows which I have planned out. My goal is to break 100 points total.

Just finished the first 10 Grots yesterday.

I have a soft spot for these old metal Gorkamorka Grots. I don't know why. They look better than the plastics that replaced them IMHO. That's why they've earned a spot in my army that is otherwise all 3D printed from Mr. Modulork.

If anyone has any of these old Grots around I need 10 more. I collected 30 which was the max unit size in 8th & 9th. Now in 10th max is 20, so I have a unit and a half. 10 more will fill out that unit... ;)

There are a few older models for which I have a definite soft spot, particularly my Eldar. The new models are nice and all, but sometimes both the scale and detail creep sort of wear me down. It was nice to be able to just have an area to try and paint, without 50 bazillion do-dads on it. Especially with the grots/gretchin. Sometimes it's just a guy with a blunderbuss, and you're lucky the little dude is wearing pants!

Plus the older models were WAY easier do to conversions on. As my ex-wife said, I never met a miniature I wasn't willing to cut the head off. LOL.

Next 10 Grots completed. That's 20 models in 17 days, which is warp speed for my usual pace.

I hope those little bastards perform way above expectations on the battlefield. Literally shoot enemies right out of their socks and shoes.

But, since actual expectations for them are probably nil, it's a low bar to set.

They look great!

Finally finished the 10 Orks that I vowed. Kinda tired of painting these old plastic Orks sadly.

They look great, as usual. Plenty of individual character.

But, yeah, painting units/armies can be a drag. I have the bug again, might get started this winter, but at the same time I'm questioning my sanity.

I get the bug to paint all the time, but then I actually find time to sit down and it's gone...
