You may have to be more specific as to what type of US military camo you are looking to paint, almost every service has a different pattern/color palette.

Well my main thought is us army or marines camoflauge schemes. I mean i know the general colors, im just kinda lost what those colors translate to in model paint colors. I'd also like to avoid having to do any mixing because i don't have enough experience yet for that.

JohnBlackhawk wrote:@s_o_r_r_o_w yea i know i should use arcrylic paints. I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT USING enamels. To be honest if the testors website ever gets back online i could show you they make arcrylic paints to. What i could use help on is finding the right colors for military green camoflauge and desert camoflauge (havent decided yet which im going to do)
I see the acrylic line.

I wouldn't use them myself, but if the price is good and you like them, paint away.

You can throw away their brushes.

In terms of colour selection--there are a number of things to keep in mind.

1. Scale colour =/= real colour. Getting the exact correct shade to match a life-sized uniform will tend to look too dark on a scale model. It is often best to start a shade or two lighter.
2. Uniforms fade and get dirty. Thus, even if you have the "official" shade, you can introduce variations and remain legit.
3. It is virtually impossible to replicate camo patterns at small scale. Figures will often end up looking either patchwork, or your carefully painted tiny spots will all blend together. It is often best to "suggest" the paint scheme / pattern than to attempt to replicate it on infantry.

Flames of War has a number of articles on this topic, including http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx ... art_id=866.

Googling will invariably produce some results.

I also recommend that you pick up an Osprey book for your service branch/period, and possibly http://www.ospreypublishing.com/store/M ... 1902579238.

According to the Testors website, they have a Camo set. I would start there. Look at your chosen uniforms, and see what colours you need.

Painting ACU will be a challenge, but the base colours are: Desert Sand 500, Urban Gray 501 and Foliage Green 502.

Sand is the majority colour, with Green second and Gray third. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Comba ... ug2009.jpg
I am always in the market for weird and wonderful GW oddbitz and ephemera. PM me if you have something old/weird/rare.

Yea sadly i know to avoid those testors brushes, my plan is look on amazon for a good deal on some red sable brushes. preferably different sizes and a mix of round and flat brushes.

I use testors brushes for applying white glue to bases. It washes out of the bristles. I've been using the same brushes for years. [I bought them back in the 70's.]
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)
