also to keep norton (even tho you installed it sometimes it leaves stuff on the puter) from loading on startup, or any other program you dont want to load on start up.

click on start/run
type in: msconfig
a window will pop up and click the startup tab
you will see a lits of all sorts of stuff.
alot of it dont need to load up on start up. and if you uncheck some of those boxes start up will speed up, and it will free up quite a bit of memory.

usually all i keep loaded is:
a fan monitor for my motherboard
antivirus
sygate firewall (so i dont have to load it before i log on)
an accelerator for adobe acrobat to speed it up (i use it alot)
software for my keyboard and trackball

and uncheck the rest.

stuff like printer software, instant messengers, and all sorts of other crap wants to load up on start up and you can get rid of it. but some pain in the arse software will reload itself on startup when you re open it, 2 that are pains that i know of, is MSN messenger and Real player, i think quicktime even does, its one of the main reasons i use windows media player for all of my media.

and if you allready know about MSCONFIG ignore me, but it works on 98 and up through xp at least. (cant rem if it works on 95)
