Re: Magnetizing question

I do some magnetizing as well, and always use K&J Magnetics.

For smaller parts, I use their basic D21 magnets. These work for anything you're attaching to infantry of any type. Heck, I've got them in the launcher mounts of my Typhoon Landspeeders, holding plastic launchers into a plastic body. If you're really paranoid about metal arms, get D21-N52s instead.

For my Dreadnaught arms, I use the basic D41 magnets. These are even strong enough to hold PEWTER Dread arms on to a Dread body. No droopage at all.

The one factor I have found that these magnets can't deal with is long barrels. For example, I magnetized the turret of a Predator (plastic kit). I put magnets in either side of the gun housing, with matching magnets in the sides of the autocannon and lascannon housings (the part that fits inside the turret). I also put a single magnet in the rear of the turret, where the ammo boxes attach.
All of this was done with D21s.
The ammo carriers work just fine. However, the gun barrels droop because there's little friction to hold them up. The lascannon barrel isn't too bad, but the autocannon won't stay put at all. Once I get around to fixing it, I'll be adding a magnet to the rear of the housing in addition to the ones in the side. This will function as a focus point that will counterbalance the weight of the long barrels. It'll allow me to still point the barrels upward for measuring elevated shots, and instantly snap them back to level when I let go.
