If this is what he was doing, then he's a business, and has got to "pay the piper" as it were. This is not selling out, just a means to keep this joint free for us non-business types. In my opinion, selling out would be if Bartertown charged us users for the privilege of using the site to trade our toys with one another.porkuslime wrote:Mr Buffo had an ad stating he would make commission terrain by customer request, and provided examples of stuff he could replicate easily.
Essentially what BITZJUNKIE (Konflict Terrain) does.
We think our Advertising Rates are very reasonable.. and publically viewable too!
B-town a sell out? Some people just don't get it.

Go on, laugh! But one day, you'll be sitting in your house feeling all safe and secure... Then you'll look over and I'll be there... Doin'... stuff!

You have plenty of actual reputable busunesses who are paying not only for the advertising but to keep this site running. Why should this person get the special privilage of not having to do what everyone else does?
Good call. I would actually take it a step further and see if his IP matches any others here.
Suggestion (I dont know if this would help or hinder though), What if the advertisers were allowed a forum section where they could each have a "thread" of their own (I trust they would not post in one anther's threads) and post images of examples of their work? In their opening post, they could post a link to their "site" and follow it up by picture advertising. Just a random thought.

You mean like the Bartertown Advertiser Section viewforum.php?f=58 Each advertiser has their own sectionEVIL INC wrote:Suggestion (I dont know if this would help or hinder though), What if the advertisers were allowed a forum section where they could each have a "thread" of their own (I trust they would not post in one anther's threads) and post images of examples of their work? If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.
Have you read the site rules? viewtopic.php?f=44&t=45470 If not do so.

Whoops.
I never made it past the rules so that I could keep from ever breaking them and the actual trade/discussion sections.

I do agree that you did nothing wrong in your contact with that user.
I will however say that I wish there was a lighter model for much smaller businesses or for people just starting up. If I could pay a small fee, not get any banner impressions, but were allowed to put a note in my signature as to what I do as a commission worker on small/medium projects that would help a ton. I am not trying to get rich, but the advertising rates would be a huge percentage of my income at this point.
Perhaps this is something you could consider in the future, I wouldn't even really want a folder on the message board for myself, but perhaps a thread in a smaller advertisers group folder maybe.
(I tried to be as vague as possible in describing what I do so as not to be seeming to advertise on here, if even that much is too much, I apologize in advance)

I appreciate that input.
In fact, I am working on some ideas to present to Linrandir. Essentially, I want to expand the way we advertise. I want to look into adding more expensive AND less expensive options for people with varying needs.
Something similar to your suggestion will definitely be included in my suggestions.
Thanks for taking the time to chime in!
