The banners didn't create any measurable lag. That was one fortunate thing about them.
Now, if our site was INUNDATED with them, like... another trading site (so I've heard)... Well, I can see how THAT might cause lag time.

I know that the page wouldn't load until the banners were finished downloading and they always loaded 1st.

It is/was measurable lag when I'm on a wi-fi connection that isn't strong. es it's the connection, but not just the connection. This isn't the only site I frequent or the only phpBB site.

so Yes, for me the banners slowed the site down. every time, every page.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

Seems that the user avatar galleries are gone, also site has been timing out. Has not done that to me since right before the last time the site crashed,,,,runs for cover.

right now I can see my own, but not MM's
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Doubt it.
The banners were taken down purposefully, initially. Apparently, the existing banner software was less than optimal.
Avatars worked fine while that was off.
Nothing happened to Avatars until this weekend.
