The trouble with that is, as ancientsociety pointed out, that's open for abuse.
We have ten thousand users. Go look how many times the rules thread has been viewed. If we mandate a specific phrase, some jackhole is going to figure out a way to abuse the rule. "You didn't use the Magic Words so you can't leave bad feedback about me!"
It's a tricky thing, I know, and that's why nothing has been finalized yet.

adding on to feedback
could we just ad a back out category to feedback.
Good, Neutral, Bad, Back Out, Bad Form
Good - Negotiated fine and timely we had a fair exchange of goods
Neutral - Had to pester him/her a few times to finally send my stuff
Bad - Got ripped, didn't want to correct problems seeking possible mail fraud charges (Must send a Warning e-mail)
Back Out - Came to terms (Item and shipping charges or my A for your B) exchanged personal info and opponent backed out (Must send a warning e-mail)
Bad Form - Asked me a bunch of questions then never gave me a yes or no (must send warning e-mail that you are gonna Bad Form someone)

Daloonie, those are some very interesting ideas. We'll definitely consider them in the next iteration of BT Rules.
Thanks for taking the time to post these.

daloonieshaman is on the right track, but I don't want to give +1 to a dealbreaker. I'd like to see:
+2 = Good, no problems
+1 = OK, minor issues
0 = Neutral comment
-2 = Bad, dealbreaker
-10 = Bad, scammer
+2 = Good, no problems
+1 = OK, minor issues
0 = Neutral comment
-2 = Bad, dealbreaker
-10 = Bad, scammer

Oh no, not this *&%$ again!
-2 for backing out of a deal? Again, what language constitutes a "deal"? What are you out if someone backs out of a deal? And where does this end - as Starslayer mentioned, there are lots of other things that could require neg/neutral feedback?
The system is fine as it is.

Trading Guidelines:
1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.
2. If you agree to buy something, you have 72hrs. in which to pay. If payment is not received in 72hrs., I will automatically post a Non-Payment/Backout thread.
3. Refs are left upon positive receipt of goods, NEVER beforehand!
4. I accept Paypal & USPS money orders and charge for shipping AT COST. I make no profit from it.
5. I trade NIB/new models at retail.

What will be the exact wording that will constitute a deal?
Its going to cause more problems than it solves.
I've had lots of traders here simply to lazy to post a trade ref after a successful trade even after reminders. I just don't give them one, and move on.........

It's lost opportunity cost.
If I'm holding items because we agreed on a deal, and the other person doesn't follow through, then I lose the chance to sell it for something I want now.
AncientSociety, suppose I agree to buy a big chunk of your stuff at your current prices. You're an ethical guy, so you pull your ad, or mark it as "in trade". I say I'll ship it out first because you've got higher feedback. It goes a little slow. In the mean time, you see the opportunity to trade for the Armorcast / Forgeworld whatnot that you've been lusting for. You alert me, and I cough up a phony DC#, make up a bunch of lame excuses. Eventually, I say it came back to me on a bad address after a month.
If it happened to me, I'd be mightily pissed. How would you feel about it?
In any case, the system is NOT fine as-is.
Neutral is worth 1 point. That is NOT right. It should be ZERO. If somebody has a habit of backing out of deals, he should NOT get +1 Feedback every time someone makes the note that he's a dealbreaker.
+1 Feedback means deal was completed, but with problems.

John, the example that you use is a bad trade (if I read it correctly), NOT backing out of a trade. This is already covered by the BTR and feedback system.
Trading Guidelines:
1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.

In the example, I said I was going to trade / buy / whatever, but I backed out. No money or merchandise ever exchanged hands. From your perspective, I strung you along, but ultimately backed out.
So what do you do? Do you open a BTR? If so, I just post my lame excuses (someone got sick, some relative died, my dog ate it).
Do you leave me Negative Feedback, even though nothing was exchanged? If so, I'm complaining that it's not deserved because I backed out, and current practice isn't to do this kind of thing.
Or are you giving me +1 so you can complain? You want to increase my Feedback for backing out of a deal?
Right now, there's no penalty for backing out of a deal. And to me, that's wrong. There should be a penalty for backing out.

I might be missing something but I do not see the need for giving someone negative feed back for backing out of a deal so long as no funds or items changes hands.Just repost your items.Things happen in real life that are more important than toy soldiers.
Now if someone does this over and over and over again no one is going to trade with them leaving them with a very low ref number and people will be slow to deal with them verses someone with a higher ref, thats one of the points of the ref sytem I think.
If some backs out of a trade before anything changes hands why give a ref at all?
Giving negative feed back for this would just be petty and vindictive,is that what this place is going to turn into? if so I will just go back to dealing with the devil, aka GW

QFT, it also opens up the feedback system and BTR forum with a deluge of "he said/he said" argumentsGaijin18 wrote: Giving negative feed back for this would just be petty and vindictive,is that what this place is going to turn into?
