My latest terrain piece and gaming area

Post by MagickalMemories »

I thought you guys might like to see this. This is where I game, and has pics of a Space Station I recently completed.

All pics are available as larger versions, in my DakkaDakka gallery:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery- ... jsp?u=3197

It's reposted from a Dakka thread where we were discussing our gaming areas. So, if you saw it there... it's the same here:

So, in taking pictures of a project I've been working on (8 to 12 hours every Saturday for about 4.5 months), they captured pics of the place where I game. I took a couple others to add on, though. I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to go ahead and show ALL the pics of the project, since most of them are in the "gaming area" pics, anyway, and tell you about it...

If you turn to Page 345 in your 40K rulebooks, you'll see where the inspiration for this Bad Boy came from.

(Larger pics are in my gallery)

Image
That's Rob (Tactica on Dakka) in the background. In real life he actually has a head.

Another angle:
Image

You can see the bar in the background here:
Image

More Rob:

A close up of the main building of the space port. You can see Leopold and Franz in the background here... We'll meet them later:
Image

Another closer shot, from a different angle:
Image

Yet another close up. Those black explosions were made with FW weathering powders, BTW:
Image

A different angle (again):
Image

Again:
Image

Yet again (Hi, Franz!):
Image

Some close ups of the building.
It's all modular. Here is one piece:
Image

A close up of the back (front?) and two "turrets." These were fun to convert from fitting the fortress of redemption to fitting CoD tiles. Not something that is good for your sanity!
Image

I pulled this away from the walkway to show the doors:
Image

"Ground Level" shot of the "out building" that is sitting in the center:
Image
That's Tom in the background. It's his place.

Another "Ground Level" shot:
Image

The view from the landing pad. The pad that is on the upper floor of the main building has the side pieces glued in place:
Image

The side pieces move on the other two, though:
Image

So, you've seen this in the pics:
Image
That's 4' tall, 2' deep and 13+' long. That's where Tom keeps his armies. It's LED lit with tempered glass shelves. This way, you can see all of the models, and the LED lights don't, you know, melt them. LOL

This is Leopold:
Image
Leopold (never "Leo") is rather dumb... Well, stupid, really. He's fun, though. Just don't let him get drunk. He's a mean drunk.

This is Franz:
Image
Franz is a black bear. He's 6' tall and from Canadian. Oddly, however, he speaks with a German accent and I've never heard him say "Eh!" or "Hoser."

Lastly, the storage area. This is where the terrain and some other things are kept:
Image

This is a fun set to use. There are enough 2x2 squares that we can choose whether or not to use the FW Walls or the Giant cliff-like hills. They aren't shown in this pic, but the cliffs are about as tall as the walls.

These next 2 pics show the 4x6 FW Cityfight tiles hith buildings on them (but not attached):
(Sorry for the blur)
Image
Image

This is the extras cabinet. It holds the 3 armies that won't fit in the cabinet shown earlier, the extras from the Orks and the stuff that's too large/tall for the cabinet shelves:
Image
The bottom shelf (only visible in the bottom right corner of the pic) is SOB.
Next up is IG
The two above that are Tau (previous codex - no new models yet)
Above that are Ork & Tau flyers, extra Ork models and FW Ork tanks that would be too big for the front cabinets. They're not used as often, so they're sent back here.
Above that are more big things. A Heirophant Bio-Titan and Warhound can be seen here, amongst others
Top shelf is CSM Warhound, Angron, two Stompas and... I forget.

Having seen all this, you're probably thinking what a great place this must be to game. If you are, you're right... and I consider myself lucky to do so. It's really not because of the environment, as much, though. Really, it's about my gaming buddies. Tom, Rob and Andy (not shown, even partially) are 3 of the best guys I've games with in the nearly 32 years I've been gaming. They're great gamers, modellers and friends. THAT (IMO) is what makes a gaming space a great place to play.

Very, very impressed. The space port looks great (I saw the one in the BRB and it just looked like so much fun) and that gaming cabinet looks like it's ready to burst! Is it just the angle of is the bottom shelves look like they are sagging a little?
Positive feedback I have left for but have not received any in return: Stephen, oldgamer56

Must be the angle. They're tempered glass. No sag there.
It really was fun to build. Fortunately, we used an airbrush for the 3 or 4 coats of grey that we put down first, gradually getting lighter. All of the white, blue and brass was done by hand, though.

Eventually, I'll be building and adding alternate walkways (the whole thing is modular) and "outbuildings." I've had enough building and painting, though. So, that would be a while off.

Thanks for the kind words.

Yeah. Last year, he upgraded.
It was already pretty damned cool, but just got better.
Everything about the space is incredible. There's NO denying it. LikeI said, though... it's all about the PEOPLE. They're even better.
