Also they it is written in the codex, a Chapter Master can only have a honour guard while the captain can only have a command squad, so does it mean that the Chapter Master cannot have a command squad?

I believe that is the case.

Hi there,

back with my first list using Betrayal.
first thoughts of the book, 2500-3000 points is the range for the fun to begin without selling both yours legs, i think that under 2000 pts, you're loosing a bit of the "Legion" spirit
i saw recently a list over Bols (i know...) with 17 models at 2000 pts, Betrayal is not the GK dex... but Bols tends to have a pretty narrow view of the game
anyway, i used the legion diagram as the base of the army ( 2 tactical, 1 support per lieutenant), i'm not using neither any of the legion rules as i'm tending towards a Luna Wolves army at the moment (if only FW would released LW shoulder pads....)

so here's the thing:

HQ
Praetor
-bolt pistol
-master carfted paragon blade
-Iron halo

ELITE
Apothecarion Detachment
-2 Apothecaries
-2 augury scanners

TROOP:
Tactical Squad
-10 additional marines
-additional combat blade
-Nuncio-Vox
-Vexillia
-Artificer Armour
-melta bomb
-power weapon

Tactical Squad
-10 additional marines
-additional combat blade
-Nuncio-Vox
-Vexillia
-Artificer Armour
-melta bomb
-power weapon

Tactical Support Squad
-5 additional marines
-Flamers
Rhino
-Auxilliary Drive
-Havoc launcher

FAST ATTACK
Jetbike Sky Hunters Squadron
-3 additional bikes
-2 volkite culvarin

Seeker Squad
-5 additional marines
-9 combi-melta
-Rhino
-Auxilliary Drive

HEAVY SUPPORT
-Predator Strike Squadron
Predator
Predator Cannon
heavy bolter sponsons
pintle-mounted heavy bolter
Predator
Predator Cannon
heavy bolter sponsons
pintle-mounted heavy bolter
Predator
Command Tank
Flamestorm cannon
heavy bolters

Spartan Assault Tank
Auxilliary Drive
Flare Shield

Spartan Assault Tank
Auxilliary Drive
Flare Shield

Break down:
63 models
6 bikes
2 Spartans
2 Rhinos
3 Predators

each Apoc rides with a Tactical and a Spartan, one also includes the Praetor, Spartans drives up to the objectives and seat there, spartan takes down heavy tanks, Apoc confer Feel no Pain and Interceptor to the tacticals
Seekers go after the designated target (heavy assault enemy unit or)
Support Tactical and Bikes as counter attack units
Predator Squadron provides anti-infantry fire power, 2 preds firing 8 shots of autocannons and 18 shots of heavy bolters, the command tank adding the flamestorm and 6 heavy bolters shots

that's it for 2500 pts

The past, the present and the future

end of the year is soon and again i haven't paint half of what i wanted to do, on the other hand this year has been professionally interessing. so time for a small check up gaming wise:

The Past:
-Dystopian Wars: although an interesting concept, Spartan games tends to jump from project to project. add the difficulty to find players around here. this one is gone
-Warmachine: tried again in January, and no i still don't like it, neither the rules, the set up nor the models, so it's out definitively.
-Warhammer 40k: yep so far and since a couple of years the only interesting since from BL and FW, don't get me wrong, i love the universe and the design (even the setting it became over the years) but models from GW have been not appealing to me in the recent years. Consequences of that, i don't see myself building a 40k army in the near future, and gonna slash into the bits, and stuff accumulated. Still gonna keep up with the codex releases though. Even thinking about putting the Ultras for sell...

The Present:
-Warhammer 30k: Betrayal is the best 40k book in long time, as previoulsy stated 90% of the SM army list i've done recently tends towards the great crusade and the heresy eras. I have currently 2000 pts of Iron Hands playable in both 30k/40k as well as a good start of Sons of Horus. it will stay that way for a while, as there's 2 things i will hardly wait: Ad. Mech and a SW heresy army list.
-Infinity: finishing smoothly the painting of the JSA starter set, planning on playing a bit as i've found a group locally. Planning on getting a couple of more models but limitng to JSA.
-Dust: game is still around for the kids for an easy afternoon

The Future:
-Warhammer 30k: painting the IH and building the SoH, get some scenary as well
-Infinity: have 150 pts painted, a 4x4 table maybe, as MAS scenery are quite nice
-Flames of War: i have the rulebook, and Dust gave me the taste to give a try actually playing
-Relic Knights: so i have loads of models coming for that sometimes in May 2013, i'm probably never going to play the game but the models were nice

so here's the state of the basement right now, we probably are going to move in the next 2 years which leaves plenty of time to sort all the things i stored there and which there's no point on keeping.
Special mention: my RT marines collection is eternal....;)

Cheers

I looked up Relic Knight and watched part of the kickstarter video.. I guess I'm too old for it. it has no appeal to me. It looks like yu-gyi-oh with minis instead of cards.
the bases make me think of Warmachine/hordes..that doesn't help either.

Dystopian wars, fairestorm armarda and uncharted seas are great. they all play a like, but DW has picked up a bit more in one of the gaming groups. the ohe, left it because of 1 player. he had fsa and played like 40k IG. he pissed wveryone else off so much, they won't try it with anyone else and have dumpred their models. FA had 1 player hyper for it, but it's a bit of a drive for him, so he got another group started in his area [1 hour drive away]. uncharted seas i like, but since a couple of the other players have all or most all of man o war, everything compares to it. which sux since i have about 4 UnS fleets started.
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)

Back from the North, had a really great time but too much food and a schedule more charged it didn't feel i was on vacations... anyway Happy New Year to all!
Got the time during the trip to play Infinity, enjoyed it for first games in years (2005-6?), i will expend the line surely, found the Human Sphere book i was missing as well as some bases.
Got the Open Fire! boxset and the Nuts book, good read, plastic models are really nice sculpt, if Battlefront follow that line with future release, it's an epic win.
Got more Gundam models to do with the kids as well...
that was for the shopping spree in Montreal, thing that i do not do here as the only decent store (catalogue wise) is like 2 hours from here.
Got the think about an engineer army for 40k, small points (1000 max)
Painted more Sons of Horus, ordering even more models for the Sons of Horus
and friends and i went to a GW store asking for squats models...

Overall nice time in the snow, wish i was still there all year long...

Sons of Horus it will be:

Started to paint yesterday night as i tried to relax a bit before going back to work on Monday (after almost 3 weeks out, i guess the load will be intense)

so here's the test model, almost done, a coupe of details to finish and it will be done
Image

for people interessed here's the break down of paints used:

Armour:
Image

Metal:
Image

Gold:
Image

Flesh:
Image

Brown:
Image

Red:
Image

and the base (from DragonForge)
Image

it took around 2 hours for the test models, by painting them in batch of 3 to 5, i can probably do 3-5 models a week.

i started the commander as well, should be finish sometimes this week

Enjoy

Cheers

So here's the Commander

Image

have done also one tactical and a second one is in the start.

next week is the mail is good, Justaerin Termies, another 10 men squad and a pred should show up

So far, the army looks like this:

Commander, Painted
Standard Bearer, assembled

10 tacticals, 1 painted, the rest assembled and primed
10 Tacticals, in the mail

5 Justaerin Termies, in the mail

1 Relic Contemptor, assembled

1 Predator, in the mail

next month, next order

Also i herited of quite a huge amount of DKok from friend that want to sell it over here.
i'm looking on the stash and thinking i might use 1000 pts ally Imperial Army... still undecided but the 3 heavy mortars and some engineers look nice.

Otherwise i renewd all the computers of my office and spending the week assembling and installing machines was fun, sad that i don't have to do that often. Looking right now at another PC but for data acquisition, any good comment on the Asus Sabertooth z77 (mounting an I7 3770k)?

Cheers

Long time i haven't given some news here.

So still painting painfully my sons of horus between kids sickness, overwork and all the things life can throw at you, at the same time.
As now, i have 1 HQ, 5 marines and a contempt or almost finished (meaning decals and weathering to do left). Still waiting on an order for matt varnish

Also since the nice people at NIH decided to fund my job for another 5 years, it is time for me to settle properly in Philly, so a lot of "free" time has been spent considering schools districts, tax and the likes...

Anyway, i started also to clear my basement of models that have been sitting in boxes since i moved in the US. If i haven't touch them in the last 6 years, it means i do not need them anymore. i mostly found leftovers of painting projects, bits, stuff from games i don't even know if they still exist, but within that i've found 2 FW Tau broadside, NIB, leftovers of a FW lot i got at some point.

I looked quickly at the rules but got lost over the XV-9 models and rules and came up with those two units:

XV9 Team
-XV9
2 Fusion cascades
Drone Controller
2 shield drones
-XV9
2 Fusions cascades
Target lock

XV9 Team
-XV9
2 Twin-linked burst cannons
Drone Controller
2 gun drones
-XV9
2 Twin-linked burst cannons
target lock
-XV9
2 Phased ion gun
drone controller
2 shield drones

i got no idea what the flavour will be for the next dex Tau, but i know that Elite spots are though to sort out as you tend to maximize the crisis choice. but if you put all your crisis choices in Fast attack, then you free some space for other things (Riptide, Stealth) or even more Crisis... Any good advices on how the XV-9 perform? it looks nice on paper for me...

i might be tempted to get some XV-9 at some point in the future, for now i have to concentrate on painting green-grey guys, enough to have a full 1000 pts for my summer vacations in Mtl...

Cheers

so 2000 pts

Kroot Carnivors Squad, 103 pts
-14 models

Elite:

XV-104 Riptide, 260 pts
-TL Plasma riffles
-Ion Accelerator
-2 Shielded missile drones
-Early Warning Override
-Velocity Tracker

The monster will deep strike behind ennemy line and become a problem the opponent can't ignore, can act as a support platform and anti-air unit,

XV-25 Stealth Team, 145 pts
-4 models
-4 Early Warning Override
-Fusion Blaster

Support Unit for the FW or the Kroot, can act also as an anti-reserve unit

Fast Attack

Pathfinder Team, 88 pts
-8 pathfinders

Tetra, 50 pts

Tetra, 50 pts

The pathfinders find a nice place and stay there marking anything that comes to close while the tetras go after the priority targets for the XV-8's and the Riptide

Heavy Support

Hammerhead Gunship, 200 pts
-Subminution
-SMS
-Disruption Pod
-Point Defense Targeting Relay
LongStrike

to destroy transports of annoying units, this is the can opener for long range

XV-88 Broadside, 109 pts
-Railguns
-SMS
-Velocity Tracker
-2 Missile Drones

XV-88 Broadside, 109 pts
-Railguns
-SMS
-Velocity Tracker
-2 Missile Drones

Main role is to destroy light vehicules, they sit behind the aegis defense line and shoot.

Aegis Defense Line, 70 pts
-Comm Relay

Security for the Broadside and/or the FW if missions ask for that kind of deployment, comm relay for the deep striking units (XV-8, XV-104, FW's, etc...)

From there, i have a couple more models to assemble (waiting for the bases) and then first game by the end of the month....

C&C welcome

Oi!

long time no write. work and stuff being the main reason for my lack of updates or presence in the lower parts of the forum.

So what's new?

First, the Tau.
I enjoyed the new codex, the better one of all 3. the amount of possibilities are great and the quality of the codices recently are better, almost as good as the old 2nd edition ones.

i worte a couple of lists and assembled some models and finally ended up with something i was interessed in painting and potentially playing.

here's the list:

HQ:
-Cardre Fireblade (Warlord)
-Ethereal

Troops:
-9 Fire Warriors
-9 Fire Warriors
-6 Fire Warriors + Devilfish with Disruption Pod
-10 Kroots with sniper rounds and 1 kroothound

Elite:
-XV104 Riptide with twin-linked fusion blaster and Ion Cannon, EWO and Velocity Tracker
-2 XV8 with plasma rifle, fusion blaster, 1 has positional relay

Fast Attack:
-5 pathfinders
-6 pathfinders

Heavy Support:
-Hammerhead with Twin-linked smart missiles, railgun with submunitions, disruption pod
-Sky Ray with Twin-linked smart missiles and disruption pod
-2 XV88 with High Yield Missile Pods, Smart missile system,4 missile drones, one has EWO, the other has Target lock

Fortification:
-Aegis Defense Line with Quad gun

1499 pts.

That's a nice list with suicide unit (XV8, Kroots), enough fire power to kill transports (XV88, Hammerhead), deal with flyers (sky ray, Riptide and quadgun at bs5), deal with MC(XV88, Hammerhead, XV8 with markerlight support) and solid anti-hordes (firewarriors with Cadre and Ethereal behind the aegis with the gun managed by the fire blade, it can deal also with marines with the sheer amounts of save it can create by combining the fire warriors, the broadside and the riptide)

my only wish would have been to have space enough to fit some pirhanas....
Right now, i need to get 2 broadsides and 1 box of fire warriors and the army is completed, the rest is already assembled and i have some models painted. first game with them this month normally

Secondly, i played with the IA11 Corsairs army list and did the same process as with the Tau, i put some models together and toyed with a couple of ideas. i think the strength of that list resides in the jet pack troops choices and the 3 units deep striking granted by the Prince.

HQ:
-Corsair Prince with fusion pistol, void blade, jetpack, shadow field

Troops:
-10 Corsairs, 6 shuriken catapults, 2 shuriken cannons, 2 flamers, jetpacks
-10 Corsairs, 8 lasblasters, 2 EML
-3 Wasp each with spirit stone and 2 scatter lasers

Fast Attack:
-Nightwing

Heavy Support:
-Warp Hunter with Holo-field

Elite:
-10 wraithguards with wraith cannon
-6 Harlies with Troop Master, Shadowseer, 2 fusions pistols, 2 kisses and 1 power weapon.

it should be around 1600 pts. i'm still working on it but the idea of deep striking 10 wraith guards is so tempting.... the 2 other units to benefit from deep strike would the harlies and the warp hunter, all the rest can natively deep strike already. On the purchase list, the 3 wasps, the nightwing and the warp hunter, the rest is already assembled.

now i'm waiting on an update for the Army list and see how they are going to adjust the corsair army list with the recent eldars codex (mostly for the weapons rules...)

which brings me to my last idea which is a full wraith army using the Iyanden supplement. i'm still reading it so the list below is more a guide lines that a true army list but i was thinking about:

HQ:
-Farseer
-2 Spiritseers

Troops:
-5 Wraiths with cannon in serpent with scatter lasers
-5 Wraiths with D-scythes in serpent with scatter lasers
-5 wraiths with Ghost axes and shield
-5 wraiths with ghost blades

Heavy Support:
-Wraithlord with 2 bright lances
-Wraithlord with 2 bright lances
-Wraithknight with suncannon, shield and scatter laser (warlord)

Fast Attack:
-Hemlock wraithfighter

was considering replacing the farseer by an Autarch, take 1 big squad of 10 wraithguards with ghost axes, removing the 2nd wraithlord and the adding another unit of wraithguards in serpent...

Anyway, i still playing around the dex and ideas by T6 troops with Str 10 gun is nice. i put together the crimson fighter and it's a nice model, limited in conversion, i find the dark eldar fighter more interesting for that (cheap nightwings...). the most difficult part for this army would be to find enough FW mark 1 wave serpent kits....

Other gaming news is Infinity new toys for JSA, bikes army anyone?

on the side i'm slowly building up my Legion Sons of Horus, i passed the 2000 pts mark recently by adding a seeker squad full of combi-melta, now if FW would be good enough to release the new dreadclaw drop pod, that would finish that unit. i decided not to cross the 3000 pts mark excluding the special characters... so i'm probably looking at another predator, 1 land raider and a veteran squad (SoH Reavers are supposed to be released soon). the previous addition was one of the strange Davinite Lodge Priest as a marker...

On that, i go back to sorting my data...i kind of tired of running statistics lately only to find my p value over 0.05.....

C&C always welcome for the lists

Cheers
