Update:

So i jumped out of 40k for a month, mostly due to work stuff and Macross Frontier modelling...
i finished another VF-25, this one is a limited edition for the release of Itsuwari no Utahime movie
Image

for the details it's 1/72 fully transformable into gerwalk and battle mode

Gaming side, i received a FW order including the Tartaros Termies and some rapier laser destroyers, The termies were awful, 3 storm bolters out of 4 miscasted as well as 1 pair of legs, 3 torsos and all 5 helmets... they came on sprues aka finecrap with a similar type of resin. Stay away of this kit if you can as the flash is everywhere and moldlines do run over details (torsos and helmets mostly). One of my rapier kit was missing parts otherwise a great kit, i'm just a bit sad that the crew comes as single part for legs and body, i would have love to use the torsos for a command squad. Anyway after a quick call to FW, i'll be getting replacement parts as well as a Storm Eagle and those nice apothecaries...;)
The Iron Hands army is growing slowly and painting going slowly too...(11 models and 2 vehicules painted, 30 more troopers and 7 vehicules to do..)

I read on the side the FLames of War 3rd books, pretty good reading! probably going to put more attention to the game. i painted some germans a coupel of years ago, it was fun. I might be interessed into building some brits someday.

Painting side, i did finish the tiny fighters for the Blazing Sun battle group, was fun not to put too much time on that

In the meanwhile, i'll go to bed

Cheers

Small update of what is currently being done:

first the painful Stormeagle, the fit between plastic and resin parts is less than good, a lot of trimming and putty work in perspective...
Image

Then the Iron Hands as of yesterday:
Image
still some termies and a rapier to assemble...

and then a side-thing for painting:

Jul, what is your take on that plane? I am looking to get one or 2, but.. are the rules up to the appearance of the plane? Or is this something I am best off buying one, and then running around my house making VRROOOMing noises?
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

The dakka jet with some Waaaaaargggh manipulation is pretty good and the flame jet is okay as well.

I am finding the Storm Eagle pretty challenging as well. It don't fit to well.

As Norseman said, the Dakka Dakka jet is okay. In a pure Evil Sunz list, i'd would stick to 1 plane and wartracks on the side.
i saw somewhere the 3 dakkajets + 2 warpheads to multiple the Waaagh effect, but there's so much better HQ than 2 warp heads...

i would say a Dakka with Ace and 3 Supa kannons is a good pic as an harrassing unit for svg 4+ targets, i've found the others flyers not that good on points value side as there are better choices in the dex... eldars jetbikes make a perfect target...;)

i would have love the possibility to take them as Squadron of 3...

as of yesterday evening...
Image

@norseman: yep the Storm eagle is kind of pain, i do not remember last time i had a FW model that annoying to assemble... i find that pure FW models are easier to put together than the hybrid kits... i'm ordering some Deimos kits, see if it's as bad...

Cheers

Forgeworld might be nicer, but is also not $45.

I think it is a fun model. I am hoping in the next edition of 40K, it will be better. Rumor has shooting modifiers / penalties for things, and I think the jet will only be hit on a 6+ most of the time. 10/10/10 sucks to die to a bolter shot......

On second look I noticed the big file you have their... I don't know if all you knew this but filing resin is a little risky if you don't do it carefully. Resin dust is a pretty nasty carcinogen. I do a lot of resin work and do file occasionally. Make sure you have a either wear a mask or have a fan blowing the dust away from you face, and make sure you inhale before you bring the piece to your face to blow away the dust for inspection. I generally try to cut instead of file.

Thanks for your concern. i'm pretty well aware of the danger of resin dust from my decade working with resin and my experience as a master mold maker....;)
i use that file for putty, i do cut my resin flash with a saw, easier and less dangerous...

One day, i'll be getting one of those nice hood we have at work...

small update of the week...

finally received my replacements parts from FW for the Tartaros et the Rapier. Was happy to see that the Termies are now casted flawlessly using traditional FW method and not the finecast sprue style... i'm going to have some good assembly time tonight...

I went Ork a bit along the week, undusted the Stompa and played with a rhino that used to be in a previous life a transport for my old deathguard...
Image

Beside that i played an hour or so on the dakka dakka jet...still not finished but getting closer, probably another hour or so before i go to weathering process

Oi oi!

played with the FW stuff tonight:
Image

and the bits box is growing fast...
Image

Made me think it's time for an armylist, this time within the current 40k setting, as i normally use the rules for Heresy Era published by Tempus Fugitives. As expected the army list contains a couple of FW rules but only the ones marked suitable for 40k (no apocalypse unit, but i do have a Fellblade based on the FW Mars pattern)

Anyway, here's the list:

HQ:

Battle Captain: 160 pts
-Artificer Armour
-Storm Shield
-Relic Weapon

Master of The Forge 115 pts
-Power Weapon
-Boltpistol
-Servo Harness
-5 servitors, 2 heavy bolters 110 pts

Elite:

Veteran Squad: 355 pts
-7 combi-meltas
-2 meltaguns
-1 power Fist
-Drop Pod

Terminator Squad: 210 pts
-4 Storm Bolters
-1 Heavy Flamer
-1 Power Weapon
-3 Power Fists
-! Chain Fist

Dreadnought: 180 pts
-Multi-melta
-DCCW
-Heavy Flamer
Lucius Drop Pod

Troops:

Tactical Squad: 225 pts
-Meltagun
-Multi-melta
-Power Weapon
Drop Pod

Tactical Squad: 220 pts
-Flamer
-Missile Launcher
-Power Weapon
Drop Pod

Fast Attack:

Storm Eagle: 315 pts
-Twin-linked Multi-melta
-2 Twin-linked Lascannons
-Extra Armour

Heavy Support:

Contemptor Dreadnought: 230 pts
-Twin-linked Lascannon
-Plasma Blaster
-Targeting Augury

Mortis Contemptor Dreadnought: !80 pts
-two Kheres Assault Cannon

Rapier Laser Destroyer Battery: 180 pts
-3 Rapiers

for a nice total of 2460 pts, to bring it yo 2500, i'll probably put some fency equipement and option here and there... the Fellblade being around 500 pts, i'll get a decent size army, even if i'd like also to push the termies to 10 models and add a third tactical squad to reach the 3000 pts mark, after that i'll be done assemblying and focus on the painting waiting for FW Horus Heresy books (which should/would/might be announced at GD UK this september... :-D ) I sitll have a command squad coming up and 2 other Comtemptors in bags but i need more bases from DragonForge...

Anyway, it's the 5th full FW army i put together (2 previous Dkok and 2 Elysians), much to say the marines army is my favorite (beside the RT marines, of course).

Time to Sleep a bit before back to what is financing my FW addiction...

Cheers

Hi There,

Any orks players around? i kind need advice for several things:
i'm looking for an army where everything mive fast...

HQ
-i'll be using Wazdakka as my first HQ, would it be wise to put a second warlord or a Big mek with kustom force field (riding in a battle wagon)?

Troop
-bikes in troops, so 3x6 bikes, 3x3 bikes or 2x9 bikes?
-Nobs on bike took a punch with the new ed. still worth the points?

Elite:
-burnas in a battlewagon? yes or no, i like the idea, but got no idea how they perform? it looks decent on paper...

Fast attack:
-Wartrakks or Deff koptas?
-2 dakka jets?

Heavy suppport:
-3x battlewagon with deffrolla in which i put the boyz.
-like the idea of looted basilisks...as well but not that much speed freaks

Cheers
