2011 - Feb. snowstorm

Post by MagickalMemories »

So, who else is stuck in this thing?

I stayed home today. We've been getting Ice all day. There's about a half inch of solid sleet/ice outside.
I'm about 30 miles south of St. Louis. We're on the low side of the expected snowfall, and reports are coming in that we'll see anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of snow, on top of the ice.
Places north of St. Louis (about as far away N and I am S) are expecting up to two feet!

Looks like another painting day tomorrow, too!

So, who else?

Me, home today and work is closed tomorrow and possibly Thursday. I'm about 2 1/2 hours outside Chicago. Have about 6" on the ground and expected to get between 18"-22" all together.
Prepping and hopefully starting to paint a bunch of Mounted Cowboys.

Sunny and high 50's (which is pretty cold). Tomorrow, the high is supposed to be in the 40's (gasp), but then by the end of the week it will get back to our normal "winter" weather of 60's.

The mountains have some snow, which is kinda nice.

It was 21 at the Grand Canyon today with a wind chill of 11 but no snow accumulation.

We were supposed to get 2 to 4 inches yesterday and today but nada, zip, zilch.

We are supposed to be 14 tomorrow with the Canyon being 16. Lows tonight and tomorrow are going to be single digit here and in the negatives at the canyon.

Just to specify here is Williams, Arizona - about 5 to 6 hours north of Adunaphel's location.

Thank you,
Williams, AZ

1/2+ inch of ice here, some snow later. Almost all of the counties around us have travel warnings...not us of course...

Here's hoping I can stay home tomorrow.

And here's a first for me at least, thunder and lightning mixed in with the snow storm.

Yeah, Imp. They were talking about the possibility of that happening here. last time I remember that happening, I was about 14 or 15.

Apparently, the meterologists were wrong ::Gasp!:: The "official" storm is apparently over. We're getting a little snow dropping, but it looks like we're stuck with a bunch of ice.
Yippee.

Local news web site says about 300 are w/o electricity in St. Louis are, while over 35000 are without it in IL.
Also, on the web site, it told you what # to call in case you were without electricity... and surfing the internet, apparently.

Here's my little guy playing after the fact. Note the plowed driveway snowbank... He's about 2 1/2 feet tall for perspective...

Last night, we lost power for about 11 hours. Rain, snow and temperature hovering 29 degrees = 1/2 inch of ice, and downed power lines and trees on roads. We also had thunder/lightning as well as snow. rather freaky.

Evidently 85k homes in central Ohio were powerless, with 6k still without power as of tonight.

As for us, just the ice, with maybe 1 inch of snow.. enough to give the illusion of traction for drivers to plow into other things.

Personally, the truly "exciting" thing was that the outlet pipe for my sump pump to the sewer system froze a plug into it during the power outage.. and when the power came back at 530 this morning, .. by 7am there was a tremendous BANG as the sump pump broke the plastic piping in the basement with water pressure and a geyser erupted in the basement. That has been "dealt with" by opening the emergency release valve and rerouting the sump outflow into my neighbor's back yard. Sure to win me friends.

Pretty cold!!!!!!

Pretty COLD??????

I would be out in my shorts and tee shirt in that. LOL

It's below 0F here...was -40F last week

Now that is cold...

Unfortunately for us we missed the snow storm. I would have appreciated a painting day or two, to catch up to IMP in the staff challenge.

I think this thread might just be over.
I'm reasonably sure Jim just won.

When we talked last night, Jim, I'd bet you didn't foresee THAT happening!
