So, anyone play EVE Online?

Post by Ironhide »

I've been playing this game for a few months now, and I must say i like it the most out of all the MMORPGs out there.

I've been playing EvE for years now and it is far and away the best one out there, as long as you like being able to do almost anything you want. The learning curve is a bit sharp, but once you get rolling, it's a blast.
I will often check PM's and the forums on my cellphone, but it's difficult as hell to post/reply using it. So if you see I've seen your message, or you see me online, don't be concerned if I don't reply right then. I will reply once I get to on the computer. If it's urgent, let me know and I'll reply on the cellphone...but I'll frown the whole time. ;)

I heard it was one of the most unfriendly games out there since it's so competative.

I'd consider some of the RL raids cut-throat.

It's a subscription game, 38 bucks every 60 days. But if you can make enough isk (ingame money), you can pay for that subscription with ingame money. I've not paid a subscription fee since april of 2007 on 3 accounts because of that mechanic, so yes, it can be free...kinda.

You can get a 14 day trial by downloading the game. Or if you want a 21 day trial, you can ask someone who plays the game already to send you a buddy invite, then you get 21 days and if you sign up your buddy gets 30 days added to his account. If you don't have a friend that plays EvE I'll be your friend :)

As for unfriendly, that's the wrong word...it's unforgiving. Allies are friendly, enemys are not...

Raids - well, there are raids of various types. There are the typical pve raids where a group of you go out and fight an NPC mission (dungeon in space). These have rooms (kinda) and minions and a big boss at the end like the typical raids you would expect. You can also raid other players territories and go on hunting missions and such things. For me it's been a game of pvp, but i know a lot of people who don't do any direct pvp and just do pve stuff solo and in groups.

Prophet said it best. The game is unforgiving. Exactly how space should be.

@Prophet: What corp you in?

Well, actually looking for a new one. Was in Multiversal Enterprises, part of Cry Havoc alliance. That went belly up a bit ago so I moved to Solar Nexus, but just wasn't feeling it there, so now am in a noob corp just hanging out.

I tried very very hard to get into EVE. Didn't happen. I've even tried recently. Still can't quite get it. I feel as if I'm missing some major aspect of gameplay.

I also haven't played wow since CATA came out. I am anxiously awaiting RIFT though. Looks pretty.

@ Prophet: You looking for PvP or mission running corp? I'm currently in Axiom Navy, which is part of the Axiom Alliance. Mainly a mission running corp right now, but looking to get into WH ops. Based up in Isinokka. PM me if you want to exchange character names.

I've been pvp pretty much always, but I don't mind pve if it's with a group of people that are fun to BS with on vent. All about the social interaction with cool looking explosions ya know

well, since I'm not palying any MMO at the moment, I'd like a buddy invite if someone wouldn't mind.

I'm mostly pve, I really haven't been in the mood for pvp and since my wife has discovered downloading, our DSL connection has slowed.

I'm more than a casual gamer, but not a 12 hour, wait 2 hours for a raid, gamer. I'll probably play a couple hours most every night, and on a day off play most of the day. Late nites and overnights are out. I get up at 0525 every day for work, including weekends.
I have chat, but it's a freinds they use when they play WoW. The wife gets pissed when I use a mic and headset anyway.

What is you avatar? Is it like STO, where you're a person in bases and on plansts, and a ship in space?
What types of missions are there, ship-board , ground, both?

I'll go to the site and read it's description.

Well, your avatar is a dude, but you are always in a space ship (as of this point). They are eventually going to release the ability to get out and walk around in stations (Ambulation is what they call it), but that's likely 2012 before that hits.

Well, the great thing about EVE is that you don't have to grind for experience points for your next level. You train skills, and those skills continue to train even when you are not logged on. The game is also not only about fighting. You can be a manufacturer, an explorer, a miner, or a hauler. Or you could just sit in a station and play the market. There are a lot of different things to do, but the bottomline of the game is to earn ISK(in game money). Once you start earning enough, around 400mil ISK a month, you no longer have to pay for the game because you can purchase a Pilot License Extension(PLEX); which lets you play for an additional 30 days.

Man that game looks cool, why oh why did I have to look at this forum.....recovering WoW addict.
Rules
1. I do my best to communicate & ship in a timely matter & expect the same
2. If you or I back out of a trade expect the other to post so in the b/o forum etc, if thats not okay then I am not your man to trade with
3. An offer of "$25" for an item does not include s&h if you are not okay with actual shipping charges from the USPS on top of that then say "$25 incl s&h".. simple enough..
4. Please be polite, leave feedback

after reading thru the games website, I don't see a classthat I'm interested in.

also the constant pvp even in 'safe' zones turns me off.
