Praetorian Guard

Post by gardenninja »

When I received a commission to do Praetorian Guardsmen, I was very excited. Praetorians are from a different era of Games Workshop miniatures, when there were more individual Imperial Guard regiments to choose from.

I remember when these minis first came out (towards the end of the 2nd edition of Warhammer 40,000). They were based on the film Zulu!

So, here are the first of the Praetorians I've finished. I've posted larger images and a little more about them on the Garden Ninja Blog.

That's it so far, I'll be posting more as I paint them. And like I said, I've posted larger images and a little more about them on the Garden Ninja Blog.

These guys look even better in person. :)

I had some more troopers arrive from eBay, so expect another shipment soon, gardenninja.

Anyone on the fence about GN's service don't be. He does some spectacular work with a remarkable turnaround time. I cannot recommend his service enough.

My client had me convert a few bikers into rough riders for him. He sent me the bitz for these conversions- the bikes are classic Rogue Trader era bikes (replace in the 2nd ed). The heads are from Empress Miniatures, and the bodies are a conversion kit designed by Colonel Gravis.

I've also painted some Ogryns for this force:

Those Praetorian bikers are well executed.
they make me laugh, though, because of the scenario that plays itselfout in my head:

"Pip pip, Old Boy. What say we clamber upon our motorbikes and visit deathly retribution upon our foes?"
"Well said, Old Chap! Let us sally forth and claim victory. When our mission is completed, I shall meet you anon for a spot of tea."

They look good, though.
Really like those Ogryn!

You know, I bet that happens whenever the Praetorians go to battle.

Wotcha old bean,
us Brits don't always speak like that, although 'tally ho' does feature quite a lot in the old lingo.

Cracking models by the way,

toodle pip.

Yes, I know.
I thought my way sounded funnier than saying "arse" and "snog," though.
LOL
; )

My point was that they look all "good and proper British," and that's the precise type of language (even if I mangled it, being a Colonial Savage) that we Colonists stereotype those types of Brits to use when they speak.

Also, for the record, it was all in good fun. : )

Hi Eric,
although 'arse' ans 'slag' feature quite heavy in modern british forces language, you are correct, your way was funnier, as for 'colonial savage, i couldn't possibly comment

Guys, who cares?! I'll tell you one thing - your whole language argument is sooo funny I can't stop  at it!! :-D And thinking of the troopers on a battlefield and saying those quotes to myself makes me laugh even more!! Wish GW would produce more Guard minis - even as Direct-only models....
Regards,

Noble Korhedron.
