Where do I begin?

Post by eejack »

Now, I get it, seems a silly question.

However I haven't been here in a couple of decades, the world has changed, moved on as it were. Cleaning through my storage I find crates of things from here. They are not being enjoyed. Paints have dried up, paper has yellowed, the archive boxes have faded.

Am tempted to bin everything because as much as I say I am gonna paint that there mini, I prolly won't. My enthusiasm to gather far exceeded by ability to paint.

I don't even understand the current terminology and doubt the relevance of anything I might have here.

So, where do I begin...

thanks,

Depends on what you want. If you want top dollar you have to put some work in categorizing everything and be willing to sell individual items. If you want things to move fast you can take a few pictures and have a simple description, but expect less money.

If paints are dried out you can chuck them, but anything else you have (minis, books, pamphlets, packaging, etc.) Folks may be interested in.

Make sure you are comfortable with shipping. If you just dump things in a box the other person will be annoyed and could request a refund, so you need to pack to avoid damage.

What years were you collecting/playing? What armies? Those are some good starting points.

I was collecting mostly fantasy dwarves and space marines up until september 2001. Kind of found a new hobby then. Probably was running 12 or 13k in dwarves on the table top and was on my way to making a beeky legion. Ended up with lots of weird things from other companies ( even some bartertown forge minis ). Got a lot of schtuff from the archives. Again, was better at getting than doing.

And as I recall I ended up really liking man of war, so a couple of navies. Probably a box or two of space hulk or gorkamorka. Schtuff.

But the real issue does anyone actually play with this old stuff anymore? I doubt I have anything newer than 2001. Actually, I think I bought some of the plastic land raiders when they came out and that was more recent. Never built them.

Already started chucking stuff...paints and parts and whatnots. Found an entire gw paint kit that got sent to me as thank you. Totally dry except the inks. A shame really.

As much as possible don't chuck parts. I've bought plenty of bits lots myself, so I can testify that folks buy them.

There are tons of folks who love the old stuff. GW actually just relaunched WHFB which has renewed interest in the old stuff.

As I said before, anything you have folks will be interested in buying.

Best of luck and any questions feel free to ask.

I'll keep an eye out for your selling post. Pre-2000s miniatures stuff is my jam.

Definitely interested in old school Dwarves myself. Like bbb said, Games Workshop just relaunched the old WHFB, and Dwarves are the next army to be redone.

Depending on the condition, metals will have a higher resale value than plastics if painted because they're a lot easier to strip. Anything unbuilt will definitely be easy to sell.

And some of us would love to reacquire Man o’ War with fleets. It was my favorite GW game.
