Proposed Rule Change: Requiring a list of items
Not sure if this is the right place to post but I've been seeing some posts lately that lack a list of what's actually for sale.
For example - "I've got an Ork army, want $300. PM me for details."
This seems lazy to me and not in the spirit of Bartertown.
Can we get some sort of requirement to at least provide a list of what the seller is offering?
Thanks

Re: Proposed Rule Change: Requiring a list of items
There IS such a rule..
Rule #4..
Rule #4..
Rule #4: Ad format: Use a proper DESCRIPTIVE Title & Content
If you want to post your ad in multiple relevant forums, which is good, then please title your ad appropriately. Good example: "Have Eldar and Tau, want to trade for Dark Elves and Empire." This will fit NICELY in the 40K and Fantasy sections!
Bad example: "Have Eldar and Tau." If this shows up in the fantasy section, it will be nuked!
Other BAD examples: "Have stuff.", "H: Lots! W: Lots!", "Tomb Kings"
Rule 4a: You are also responsible for accurately describing all items that you are trading or selling.
That includes version, condition, assembly status, converted or not, painted or not, any missing pieces and any other information you think might be helpful. Failure to do so may result in the other party filing a Backout Trader or Bad Trader report against you.
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.
If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

We try to catch these when we can, but we don't open every ad to check them. We rely heavily on the Reports of members for incidents such as this.
PLEASE, report issues like this. We definitely want to hear about it.
Thanks.

I have over 1,000 napoleonics. Counting them for a listing would be impractical. Too many poses, with hat, with shako, with coat, full dress, etc. There's no sense wasting time counting items a buyer is not interested in. If you want Prussians marching in full dress there's no point in counting French advancing in campaign dress.

And there's no point in even asking you what you have, that I might be interested in, since that would be a waste of my time.

You can break it down by type, ie 50 Prussian dragoons, multiple poses, primed, etcfritzschlottman wrote:I have over 1,000 napoleonics. Counting them for a listing would be impractical. You could break up by manufacturer. There are all kinds of ways.
Frankly, When I see adds like that I just skip them.

What you just posted was good enough for an ad:fritzschlottman wrote:I have over 1,000 napoleonics. Counting them for a listing would be impractical. Nobody's going to lock your ad for that.I have over 1000 Napoleonics. I have uncounted numbers in varying poses, with hat, with shako, with coat, full dress, etc.
If you are interested, shoot me a PM. We can arrange specifics from there.

Re: Proposed Rule Change: Requiring a list of items
Think about going to your local home improvement store. When you walk in, are you outraged that you aren't immediately handed a listing of every sku and quantity in the store? No. Are you outraged when the flyer that comes in the mail does not have a complete list of all items and quantities in your local store? No. You go inside and someone asks you what you are looking for. Once they know what you're interested in, then they direct you to the product or the appropriate department.
There's no need for outrage. This is a normal and customary business practice.

Re: Proposed Rule Change: Requiring a list of items
You are mistaking outrage for lack of interest. For me, if a seller doesn't take the time to give at least a basic listing, as I outlined above, then why should I take my valuable time to inquire as to what he/she has? You would have to come up with a complete list anyway if someone was interested, so why not go ahead and pull that info together for a trade add?fritzschlottman wrote:Think about going to your local home improvement store. No, this is just someone too lazy to inventory their product. How do you know what you have to even pla a game?
I walk into a home improvement store and all of the items are mixed together. There's no signs above the aisles. Paint is mixed with wood. Electrical is mixed with potted plants. Lawnmowers with plumbing. Nothing is separate and is in piles all over the building.
Then I have to spend time to find someone and ask them if they have something and then where it is.
Also nothing has a price tag and the CSR has to find a book to decide how much it costs.
Not worth my time, no matter the price.

As you have described, you don't buy from that seller if you don't like the advertisement. That's proof that the market works in itself. The seller either provides a better description to entice buyers or the buyer asks for more details about what the seller has to offer. The market works.

or they complain that the system doesn't work and propose changes that suit them.

Or they try to bully someone who isn't doing what they want them to do. See proposed rule change.
