Question about trade dispute

So I completed a trade on another sight and am now having an issue and I'm just looking for some opinions.

A trade was agreed upon, models for models. Everything was sent and received in good order, minor breaks from shipping but no objections or disappointment. Myself and the other party exchange messages that we are happy and thank each other for the trade.

This brings us to yesterday, a little over a week after the trade was completed. I get a very angry message telling me that I have screwed this guy because he tried to strip some models and it didn't go well.(paint clumped or something) So he demands that I pay him $20 immediately. I don't feel that it is my responsibility to reimburse him for his failure to strip models. So he responds with a whole mess of insults, profanity, and threats of legal action.

Any thoughts? I am new to trading like this. Would you hold yourself responsible for what someone does with the models once the trade is completed? How long after both parties call a trade good, does one get to come back and demand compensation?

Any comments or advise would be greatly appreciated.

he was aware it was an as is trade? and saw pics right? so if the issue is the clumping of paint when stripping or whatever then it is his problem, it would be like someone buying a Land Raider then screwing up the assembly process and demanding money back.

you cannot be held responsible for his mess up.

Unless there was something said for him to believe that the models were metal, and they were in fact plastic, and he tried some sort of stripping that ruined the plastic, then there is nothing that you need to do.

What would I do? I would probably send him an angry email telling him how poor his models were on the table. How dare he sell me models that perform so poorly in the game. Send me $40 immediately because I don't roll anything but 1's and 2's with these models.

Step 1 is, no matter how good it would feel to do it, DON'T follow Sinjin's advice. LOL
What you need to do, IMO, is approach moderators on that site. Different sites have different trade rules. Without knowing the specifics of the trade and the descriptions each of you gave on your stuff, I'd be at a loss to give any decent advice.
KWIM? I mean, things you may or may not have told him about the models could have affected his decision on trading. Did he tell you he intended to strip them? Did you fail to mention that you painted with Tetsor's enamel paints (hypothetical question there!)? What led him to believe he could strip the models and that his failure to do so was your fault, somehow?

In the end, he told you he was happy, then changed his mind about it. More than likely, staff on the site where you traded would just tell him to stuff it.

Keep working hard, and one day you'll attain level 99 in OldMeanBastard just like me.

I'm a nice guy but have little tolerance for those who prey upon or take advantage of others.

But on a more serious note, MM makes a lot of good points. Also, you may want to have someone with no bias read all of the communication between the two of you, and make sure there is nothing implied or hinted at that you don't see. It's disturbingly easy for two people who both speak the same language to understand the same thing differently.

Thanks for the advice guys. Turns out he made a public post that I was a scum bag so I just copied all our communications into the forums and the response was that he was in the wrong.

The models in question were second hand to me and I had never done anything with them. It was noted that they were painted and the only thing he cared about was that they were not starter models.

Sounds like you handled it right.
Good on you.
