canada shipping
Hi there,
So, I've been noticing a lot of hate for shipping to Canada and I'm wondering why that is. I'm in the U.S., however, I have noticed a few Canadian lots that I have interest in. I was wondering if anyone has experienced problems with price/delay/exchange rates issues personally or can enlighten me to the reason behind the reluctance to ship north of the border?
Thanks in advance

Re: canada shipping
plan and simple: cost.
If you ship to Canada using UPS, the receiver get charged a fee that USPS doesn't.
While USPS is cheaper, it's still more than shipping only in the US.
Also, tracking to Canada is better than most other countries, it's still not as thourogh as US.

Re: canada shipping
Canada to US shipping is far easier than US to Canada.
US to Canada is expensive and extensive delays at the border (typically blamed on Customs) are not uncommon.

Re: canada shipping
It's probably more expensive to ship Canada to US than vice versa, not taking potential taxes etc into account. Customs is certainly more onerous US to Canada.MagickalMemories wrote:Canada to US shipping is far easier than US to Canada.

Re: canada shipping
Yes, it seems Canada charges customs fees more often and higher than US.
Always remember, customs fees are just another name for taxes.

Barring Customs (taxes), which Canada throws around FAR more handily than the US, I always thought it was relatively equal, shipping from one to the other.
My comment earlier, btw, about it being expensive was in comparison to shipping within the US.

No, Canada postage is on par with all of the other prices. Just look at a paperback book.

Re: canada shipping
The last shipment I sent out to the states was a large amount of Tyranids for a large amount of Warriors of Chaos. I spent around 45 CAD for shipping, tracking and insurance to cover the whole package where my fellow US trader spent about 55 USD. I think his package was heavier due to more models (Tyranid big bugs cost a lot compared to the amount of WoC models). So I would say it is about tequal for shipping, however our customs have gone on a little spree as of late and are charging import tax on EVERYTHING (that they can at least). I used to get large armies and not pay anything, now they don't even open it and charge you import duties even after my US trading partner put gift and used soldier toys. Sure I can fight it, by sending my models to their centre and waiting 2 weeks to a month for their decision, so usually I just pay it.

Re: canada shipping
A 3lb package is about $4 more expensive to ship to 90201 from my address than vice versa (though that does come pretty close to equal with exchange).MagickalMemories wrote:

However, a 1lb small packet costs $10 to send from me to 90210 and $5.25 the other way.

It's happened to a friend of mine too, bought a small army off eBay of used Warhammer, the box was labelled used toys and he got charged import tax. They must be changing something. His package was about 150 USD and was charged 19.50 and a 9.95 "processing fee". Ontario HST is sitting at 13% so he got hit for the full thing. Same here now that I recall, package was about 600 and I paid around 90.kturock wrote:Wow..3eland.. I know countries are doing anything to get tax dollars but wow..
Just one of those things I guess, or we could just be unlucky lol. I know they used to do random checks, maybe I have just had severe bad luck!
EDIT: They probably see the large box labelled used toys and are like "No, that must be those Warhammer toys again... Tag it Billy!"

Re: canada shipping
The 9.95 processing fee sounds like a UPS fee.

Re: canada shipping
If Canada Post collects taxes due on a package, they then also charge what used to be a nominal $5 fee and is now $10.
It's still hit or miss--I wasn't charged taxes on my Zombicide package.
