Floral Dry Foam for Shipping?

Has anyone used floral dry foam as shipping protection? It's eminently carveable, cheap, comes in appropriate sizes. It's dusty and the dust is static clingy, but it blows off the model fine.

I wouldn't recommend it at all.
It's not dusty, per se... it's fragile and crumbles easily. THAT is the "dust" you are seeing.
Take a piece and thump it a few times. See the dent you left in it and debris that was created? Imagine how poorly it would protect something that was subjected to frequent 70 mph slams into other packages weighing 30 lbs or more.

Definitely something to steer clear of, IM(experienced)O.

I've never actually tried it. I'm just familiar with the fragile nature of the stuff and know how the USPS machines treat packages (are you old enough to recall the old Samsonite [?] luggage commercials? That is GENTLE in comparison).

I am indeed that old.

The plan was floral foam cut to the figure (padded with flannel), then the foam wrapped in bubble wrap and boxed, padded with loosely-crumpled paper. Trying to find a way to get the figure to move less.

You can buy packing foam that can be customized. If you are wanting it for shipping models to a buyer though it wouldn't be very cost efficient for you.

Yeah, for shipping, and thus the floral foam, my sister in law is a florist and I have an unlimited supply.

I've seen people use some sort of art glue that solidifies the foam so it doesn't break. That would be the only way I can see it working.

The other thing is to test it out. Find someone to ship a test package to and see what happens to the package.
