Donating Models (goodwill, charity events, etc.)

Post by gainesdp »

As title says, anyone have any experience with this? Preferably with qualified charitable organization (if one exists that would know what to do with war machine models)?

Great idea though limited places to do this. Honestly you'd be better off selling the models here and then donating the money.

While we pour our hearts and souls into the models they are simply "toys" to most of the rest of the world. It is a specific niche market with little understanding outside our little groups.

Plarz, the mechanic of Btown, paints an army for charity every year. I would say he would know better where to go or who to talk to. The other thing is to find hobby stores around you that have a constant flow of children/new comers. Convert them at a young age, that's what I am doing with my little ones!

EDIT: I remember an organization that had a professional painter from the UK paint it up an army and they sold it on eBay for a children's charity once but that was a while ago. So, charities do exist that use Wargaming models, it's just finding is the hard part!

You can sell items on Ebay with the money going to a charity, approved by ebay. A big named one, like Goodwill, is probably listed. You'll probably get more money for an item, on ebay, if the buyers know that's where all of the money is going.
I think ebay even has a seperate section for charity auctions.

You know, this is an idea, here...
Contact Plarz. Maybe you can give them to him. It'll save him from having to buy the models.
He donates them to Clash for a Cure, who gives their profits to support Breast Cancer Research. We advertise their convention here every year.
